Best Irish Actor?

I was just wondering who the best actor from this island is. Instead of my own opinion, who does everyone else think?

Colin Farrell
Liam Neeson
Brenda Fricker
Cillian Murphy
Richard Harris (R.I.P)
Gabriel Byrne
Maureen O'Sullivan (R.I.P)
Peter O'Toole
Michael Gambon
Pierce Brosnan
Maureen O'Hara
Stuart Townsend
Brendan Gleeson
Kenneth Branagh
Ciaran Hinds
Colm Meaney
Johnathan Rhys Meyers
Stephen Rea

I'm going for Neeson myself

Well I was a Trekkie for many many years and DS9 was my fave of the series, plus I'm now a *huge* Stargate and Atlantis fan so I'm going to have to go for Colm Meaney. Although I still think that Brendan Gleeson and Cillian Murphy are brilliant actors.

Daniel: I'm hiding. What's yours?

Ah I love Colm Meaney, he's always deadly in everything he does. And he can play good guys, bad and everything in between like. Big fan of Gleeson as well though and I do enjoy Cillian's performances so I'd have to say him too.

reply

Deff Cillian Murphy!

reply

Pierce Brosnan? Michael Gambon?

reply

Colin Farrell. Just saw him in 'Miami Vice' - watch 'MV' and then watch 'Intermission', back to back. Wow! And he can sing too ('I fought the Law(r)'); the man's an effin genius.

reply

I like Cillian Murphy and Gabriel Byrne for acting purposes, but two real good-looking irish actors are Stuart Townsend and Jonathon Rhys-Meyers.

No one shall out douche the king of the douche bags! Conan O'Brien

reply

Add Ciaran Hinds to your list. He is awsome as well. I read somewhere that he is good friends with Liam Neeson.

I am not a big fan of Farrell, but in any Irish movie he rocks.

I would say Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson.

I love all of the roles that they take on such as

Liam Neeson:
Batman Begins-Henri Ducard
Kinsey-Alfred Kinsey
Breakfast On Pluto-Father Bernard

Cillian Murphy:
Red Eye-Jack Rippner
Breakfast On Pluto-Patrick "Kitten" Braden
Batman Begins-Doctor Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow

They both take on such diverse roles that I have to give them both major props :)

reply

you cant choose the best... why? cause ireland makes too many fookin' greats. im sorry, but there's just too much talent, too much life in the actors to forget about them. a lot of these american actors, they're either dead fookin' personalities or over-dose on fake extremism...

but ireland mate, and europe in total... its just full of life mate. you cant find anyone fake cause they're too busy being real. thats what i think at least. and the attitude they have comes into the acting totally. they're always on level, never over or under acting.

those that never have any stories of failure, never tried anything

reply

Cillian Murphy - can do great accents, after that Liam Neeson.

Why is Colin Farrell on that list of "greats?"

No votes for Branagh? Hard to believe. Ok I vote him and Liam

reply

I won't be original.
I always liked Liam and recently I've seen so many good performances by Cillian (The wind that shakes the barley left me speechless), so these two.

There's so many great irish actors and actresses my list is YARDS long.

It's just that Cillian Murphy is the only one I can't take my eyes off or listen for his voice or be totally captivated by in any film he does. He's my best.

reply

james nesbitt and liam neeson and brendan gleeson are three legends. pierce brosnan is a fool and neseson is the only one to hve done us proud in Hollywood. Stephen Rea is a fine actor also
