Chechen song

Hello

I'm trying to find a song from the movie. At the "marriage" scene, where the soldiers sit round the table, and Ali starts reading one of his poems, ths soldiers start to song a traditional Chechen folk song. Unfortunately, there is no soundtrack of this movie.

I'm not familiar with the russian language, but since I'm greek I can barely understand the cyrillic alphabet.

Searching at the movie credits, if you pause at 1:43:12, you'll see that the word "Кавказ" is typed, and I strongly believe that this is the title of the song.

Could anyone help us find that song?

It's me again... Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the Cyrillic encoding. The word is similar to "KABKA3"

it looks like the text reads kavkas or maybe kavgas....i'm greek too, check this out, when they sang that song at the table, i got goose bumps, i ran over to my cd's and started playing "duo mou matia", its an old dimotiko folk song its acappella, polyphonico mirologi as we call it in greek, no instruments either from Thessalia or Hpeiros, the melodies are almost perfect, i was amazed, its the best part of the movie in my opinion,

hey! i was wondering if you had any luck with that chechnya song at the dinner table? i too was amazed. and what is "duo mou matia" and do you know if i can get ahold of a good recording of it in the USA? i love acapella folk music with a passion...

That song is the real highlight of this movie.

That type of polyphonic acappella is known as "Nasheed". Do a google search and you'll find lots of examples, maybe not this exact song, but lots of beautiful examples.

If you go to youtube and type "nasheed chechnya" you will get closer. That song was the highlight of the movie for me also.

i'm not sure if i'd call it a connection but the melody and the high and low points are almost similar to a song that i have from central greece called my two eyes (duo mou matia), the version i have is song polyphonically by old women, when i heard the song in the movie i got goose bumps. the other thing that i'm realizing that in a previous post some wrote the name of the song as kavkaz, which would make sense because in greek Kaukasos is the Caucaus area of the former soviet union, maybe thats what its refering to, or kavgas which in greek means to start trouble (i think its actually a turkish word)

aliakmwn? are you from Kozani???thats where my parents are from....anyways, like i posted furhter down, the song sounds a lot like "Duo mou matia from Thessaly, its song polyphonic, and the melodies are pretty close it amazed me.

The word "Kavkaz", means "Caucasus", or "Caucasian" in Russian. Can't help with this exact song, but it sounds as a Chechen traditional. The songs of some other Caucasian peoples are also similar. Some influences from traditional Greek music are theoretically possible, as Caucasus had ancient Greek colonization at coastline, some villages remaining until today. You can find quite similar Georgian or Abkhazian songs.
