Ancient Greeks were British people
and Brad Pitt
shareIt's American film, what do you expect?
shareBecause of accents?
What language should they have spoken instead?
Well, if they had the actors speak in ancient Greek, then there would have to be English subtitles, and unfortunately most of us Americans hate subtitles.
Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!
We don't know how Greek sounded like at the time. We aren't even sure about how it sounded 1000 years later.
So the result would be just as inaccurate. It is pointless to insist on this kind of thing.
I know, but it's fun to nitpick. BTW, did you know that according to Oliver Stone, Alexander the Great and his fellow Macedonians spoke English with an Irish accent?
Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.
That was to show that the Macedonians were a rougher type of Greek. Knowing the difference between modern English and Irish, this idea is effectively translated to the audience. Olympia speaking "Russian" was to show she was Greek, but yet another type of foreigner (coming from the far West coast of Greece).
shareWorks for me!
shareNo. A lot of them were Scotsmen also.
