Roland driving

First I thought, wait, his legs aren't usable, how is he driving? Then: Oh, his spine must be injured, not his legs. But then later when he drags himself into his chair, his legs look like they don't work. Either way, if he could drive, why didn't he just drive himself to school?

reply

He could only drive if he had a car that was equipped with hand controls like the one Cassandra put in her car for him. Hilary Faye's van doesn't have that, and judging by how their parents clearly prefer her and think that Roland isn't capable of doing a lot of normal things, they probably wouldn't pay for that.

reply

Cassandra had her car equipped with a hand brake so he could drive it.

Thanks for the explanation. It seems that would be something holding him back and the parents weren't considerate enough to get him a car specially equipped. Although, I imagine these things happen in real life.
