Ok I'm going to be stoned but...

religion was made up by people. Created to get people together to meditate. When you pray as as group you all release energy through this ritual.

It has nothing to do with GOD. My people are aware of energy and creation but not the junk it says in the Bible. AGAIN the Bible was written by people.
I've read the Bible thouroughly, many times it is a great book and a wonderful guideline by which people should lead their lives but "GOD" is in everything you hear, read, smell, wear. Any organized religion is a sham and used a way to control and surpress individuality and creative growth.

I greatly urge all of you to sit under a tree and close your eyes and relax. You'll soon start to feel everything around you and realize that you are GOD and the DEVIL just like that tree and the grass are both the creator and the destroyer, etc etc.

I agree with you.
I think everyones just kidding themselves.

Do you honestly believe that the Bible is written by someone with less knowledge than the average teenager? Have you ever read ANY part of the Bible at ALL?

I don't think a single person here will refute that Mein Kampf was written by a genius, but you wouldn't follow what that says.

Funnily enough, I've read Mein Kampf, and in fact just about every government in the 20th and 21st century follows the guidelines it lays out for spreading propaganda.

But yeah, otherwise you make a good point.

Mein Kampf is actually quite a boring read. Even Musollini said he could not finish reading it. That's a book with a lot of crap.

reply

Wow, so just because you choose not to believe in religion or a god, it is rubbish and those who follow it are just repressed fools? That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. Your ignorance is appalling.

Billions of people choose to believe in a god of some sort, and most people live happily and peacefully through out their lives. Sure, have your opinion, but don't cast such judgement on something you clearly do not appreciate or understand.

reply

I know for a fact God exists. He has touched my presence over and over again as well as answered my prayers and protected me. why don't we keep the forum related to the film and not on YOUR personal opinion about God.

God does NOT deny your existence....why then do you deny his?

reply

[deleted]

so you speak for God huh?

reply

You know for a FACT that God exists? Well then I know for a fact that you're an idiot. No one can possibly know that he does exist, and no one can know that he (OR SHE) doesn't. Yes. Just because you're lucky, that must mean that God exists. I know plenty of people who live in God, and not once have any of their "prayers" been answered. Not.f u c king.once. I know people who have had HORRIBLE things happen to them, and they STILL choose to believe in God.

Some people are wacked in the head.

You know for a FACT that God exists? Have a personal hotline do you?

I'm sorry but this is just simply delusional. I used to be a Christian and believed that I could sense the presence of God, though now I know otherwise - it's nothing more than a product of brain chemistry or at best some sense of the 'spiritual' but nothing to do with what is commonly understood by the term 'God.' Perhaps 'memes' are also a factor - by all means look the term up.

In any case, people from all religions have exactly the same feelings and emotions that you do - they cant all be correct now can they, and what makes you think that your sense of the divine is any more authentic than theirs?

Quite apart from all that, even if there is, however unlikely, a God - he she or it has nothing whatsoever to do with the abrahamic god that you all obssess over. How can this God be real? This deity began as a Jewish thunder god from amongst a pantheon of gods, and he originally came with a wife who was later tossed aside for convenience. A god worshipped and promoted by an out of touch group of primitive tribespeople, divided, politically weak and under pressure from more powerful, sophisticated and populous neighbours. They promoted this diety in an effort to centralise both religion and state. All of this pretty much explains much of what is behind Biblical writings, especially in regards to the Old Testament.

reply

I know for a fact God exists.
No--you know for an opinion that god exists, not a fact. The difference between fact and opinion is a very important and useful distinction that many people unfortunately fail to make. Sometimes I think half of the world's problems (if not more) could be avoided if people stopped mistaking their own opinions for unimpeachable facts.

Faith isn't a fact unless you are Cindi Lightballoon.

reply

Why are you so special? Are you really that self centered and ignorant? Do you truly believe that since god has "touched" YOUR presence, that he has "touched" us all? What about children who get the sh*t beat out of them for absolutely no reason? What about people who are raped and murdered and don't even have a chance at a normal life? Are those people just, trash? They clearly aren't worthy of god's protection or whatever the hell you think he's doing for you. There are some people, who pray...and nothing changes. My aunt prayed for my cousin who was a drug addict, to be safe. She died about a week later. My aunt has anxiety problems and is suffering from depression as a result. What the hell did god do for her? I accept that awful things happen to people. Sh*t happens, awful sh*t and there isn't really much that we can do about it. There are people who have killed in the name of "god". What is the purpose of that?

If you choose to believe in god, so be it. But don't you dare say that god does not deny our existence...because if there is a god, he is sure as hell giving some of us the shaft. Don't be so *beep* naive

The same way that those who believe in a 'god' look down on those who are Agnostic or Athiest. Thousands of people choose not to or are unable to believe in a god. Christians seem to feel the need to call us sinners and "let us know" that we're going to hell. Why should we hide our opinions when religious people do not?

ETA: Just realised this thread is 2+ years old. Oh well. Point is the same.

reply

What a load of Zen rubbish.

When you start thinking someone else needs the cross more than you begin to need it most yourself.

reply

Ok well as for the Bible being considered as rubbish, do you not find it interesting how those that don't consider it relevant feel like they're missing out on something. And those who acknowledge and believe in it don't feel a lack of importance or worth that sadly many people suffer from ?

Ps. Just to clarify im not saying those who don't believe aren't important, Im saying that many who don't believe feel a lack of worth.

reply

The bible was written by people who didn’t know enough to keep their own excrement out of their food, I don’t believe a single word of the bible and I certainly don’t feel any lack worth.

reply

Missing out? What are you talking about? The only time I was missing out on anything was when I was Christian, and I denied myself my basic humanity, reason, and emotion.

reply

Your assumption that those who don't believe in the Bible "feel like they're missing out on something" does not make it fact.

That group, incidentally, includes every fervently religious non-Christian -- Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Baha'i, Zoroastrians, etc. -- none of whom, by definition, feel they're missing out on something, spiritually.

reply

oh no not at all.
i for one feel all the more special because i'm only living once and the odds for my being here right now are so minuscule.

i'm sure some people feel missing out or jealous when they're religiously active and feel that their faith isn't as strong as someone else's in the congregation. in the same way, there must be religiousless people who feel a "void" in their lives and get depressed. i've known a few of both but have never been either.

PS: people get bashed on imdb forums for such petty things sometimes. so the fact that on this kind of a subject your post shows concern for atheists (like myself)/agnostics and whatnot, instead of JUDGEMENT, is a breath of fresh air :)

reply

No, human foolishness and ignorance is a whole has caused every hate-feuled conflict in world history, religion was simply the excuse by which people killed.

Religion didn't cause wars, hatred did. And hatred is with us, religion or not.

reply

I love this comment. Thank you for putting it that way. Whether you're religious or not I think this is a sentiment we can all find truth in.

Has anyone ever seen the South Park episode where Cartman gets frozen and wakes up way in the future? They show people in the future committing atrocities in the name of science because the concept of "God" wasn't around anymore.

People hate because we're people, not because of "God" or "Science." A hateful person will hate in the name of God, government, family, science, atheism, or whatever. Don't blame hate on God. Blame hate on people.

Why can't we all just be polite?

reply

Probably my favorite South Park episode.

This makes me laugh because this is exactly what I think of when I see a world without religion. People just go on fighting anyway, whether they believe in a higher power or not.

reply

Okay, well that is how you feel, and that is your issue. I can sit under a tree for 7 hours and it will only help me appreciate the earth God has made. I suppose it's a matter of interpretation.

And please, what's the point of starting this argument again? I mean, nobody EVER gets anywhere.

reply

You are missing the whole point of the argument. The movie is about th eso called belief in being Saved. It was all a play on that. We have all known people like the characters in this film.

This film revolves around people's faith and how they express it and how others view it.

With out faith this movie has no relevance.

No one here is pushing their faith onto others. They are merely stating their faith and passing it on for others and they can view it how that want but just becuase people say they believe in God doesn't man they are puishing it onto others.

reply

"just because people say they believe in God doesn't mean they are pushing it onto others."

I like the way you put that. I have felt that way when reading posts that involve religion, for some time. Somehow, though, many times that logic becomes lost in "right or wrong" about -- "Oh, I do / don't believe or this / not that is proven...but you can see this if you pray and just believe; therefore...and your side's just ignorant -- grrrrrrrr!"

Seriously, we're still "stuck" here together, for however long. Let's make the most of it. Thanks.
