Two that seem similar to Off the Map are Bagdad Cafe and Antonias Line. Good stories in a communal setting with quirky characters and feel-good results.

I didn't like either film, but if you enjoyed Off the Map you may enjoy The Ballad of Jack and Rose (dir. Rebecca Miller, 2005). It has the same tone as Off the Map, as well as also dealing with the raising of a daughter while living separated from society in America.
