Questions...and spoilers

There are a lot of questions that come up in this movie, partly because the plot seems preposterous. But how the heck does a wild and crazy guy with blond hair wind up being a very practical fellow with dark hair? It's pretty easy to keep us in the dark about the young man's identity when there's no way that blond-haired ugly guy could wind up being dark-haired, handsome James Garner. Why not make the young man a wild and crazy midget while you're at it? That'd really ramp up the suspense. Then presto! He grew to a 6 foot tall, dark-haired, practical/mature James Garner! Boy, you sure were fooled! That's what I call great writing and casting! 🙄

And understand, that's only one step beyond the impossibility they foisted on us.

Oh, I love me some James Garner, but this was one of the sappiest, dopiest, and completely impossible movies I ever saw. Had they taken the sap, dope and impossibility out of it, I'd have cried my eyes out. And it's one of the most popular James Garner movies ever. Leaves me scratching my head!

One answer - true or not - could be that we see her envisioning his reading. Thusly the notebook Noah looks nothing like real-life Noah. Once she realizes she and he are the characters from The Notebook, we do not see the young couple again...
