Does anyone else think the absolute disparity in the two Noah's looks...

Does anyone else think the absolute disparity in the two Noah's looks, young Noah and old Noah, was a major oversight? Clearly they are not the same person. Couldn't they have at least attempted to get two actors who looked similar? Wow were they off.

I noticed that..

it was so obvious, that, I seriously felt that they were two different people.

So, when they showed the old people's story and then the young people's story, I thought they were two different couples and only cared for the old people. =P

reply

They are not supposed to look alike, because if you see the photo album at the end, the pictures were actual pictures of the two old actors when young.

In the other side, Ryan wore brown contact lenses to be more like the old actor.

Everybody!

still thinking

No, because if the old Noah could not pass for either young Noah or Lon, it would make it more apparent that Duke was Noah, and not someone else. I thought they tried pretty hard to have the kids look like they could have been Lon's or Noah's...especially the daughter and son with dark hair.

Yes! I was coming here to comment on this exact thing.
I always hated this about the movie. Obviously such different bone structure.
The worst young to old "matching" I've ever seen in any movie.

What cracked me up was when old Noah was looking through the photo album (and by then we know he's Noah) and we see pictures of him middle-aged with black hair! Are we really supposed to believe that Noah suddenly went from having blond hair to jet-black hair?? It's so distracting and frustrating.

I interpreted it as that is how Allie envisioned the story as it was being told to her, and not of course how a young James Garner appeared.

reply

I know! James Garner didn't look anything like Ryan Gosling, his facial features are completely different.

I almost think it was on purpose, for the same reason old Noah called himself Duke. To keep the viewers from guessing too early that it was Noah and that this was simply the same couple at a later age.

If so, it wasn't a good enough reason.

And it was a terrible idea to use the older actors for the photo album, obviously they should have used Gosling and McAdams to tie the to stories together!

The way I see it, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams weren't necessarily meant to literally be young James Garner and Gena Rowlands, but characters that Allie saw in her mind's eye as Duke/Noah told what she thought was a story about two other people.
