The breadth of emotion, the numerous direct hits of emotionality, the casting, the direction, the multi-faceted plot, perfect acting, and a top notch script.

There is not really a lot of room for debate here, I'm a 31 year old male, watching with my girlfriend, and I was crying like a baby, which I never have before.

You can nitpick, but this is the gold standard of romantic dramas.
