saheem, or something like that. i have the tape from ages ago.

"princes don't cry. they weep."

reply

sahoo, but they call him prince the whole movie

He speaks his name once, and Big Bird speaks it once at the very end, but the low quality audio makes it difficult to discern. Also, despite being a major character in the video, he is not in the credits, so that is of no help.

Most people think it is Sahu, but what knowledge I have of Egyptian language suggests to me that it is Sakhu, 'Illuminator', which fits his fate as a star in the night sky quite well. Sesame Street was fond of inter-linguistic wordplay in this video. Things I didn't pick up on until I saw it much later as an adult.

'Sahu' is just a nickname. The full introduction that he gives (as best as my ear can tell) is this:

'Prince Sahuay of Egypt. Son of the god Wozer'kaf. King of kings, lord of the two lands, conquerer of the east and west, and fabulous fisherman.'

I'm not sure if I've transcribed his name and the name of the supposed god he gives the way it was intended to be spelled, but I'd be interested to know if either one resembles an actual name.

I know this thread is ancient, but it made me want to figure this out. Given the time period of about 4400 years ago (and building on what Balana wrote), I think he's supposed to be Sahure, son of Userkaf. The historical Sahure lived into adulthood and had children.
