I really love this movie.
5 separate stories all happening at the same time on one night that all intertwine.
There is a lot happening in this movie. It's very fast paced. Sometimes you don't know
what's happening and when it's happening. It all works out in the end.
At least for some of the people.
A really good cast.
It's one of those movies that you can't figure out why more people haven't heard of it.
Come on ATM lets have some fun dissecting this film.
I agree , dewey ! I've seen this movie ( although it's been awhile ) and I love this style of film making, where different lives intersect, such as in Pulp Fiction, Crash and most recently, Two Days in the Valley.
I'd like to see it again.
An entertaining dark comedy. I thought the movie was stealing from Crash but 11:14 was out the year before. It was good to see the late Patrick Swayze.
My only question with the plot: why did Cheri call the police when she saw Duffy shoot Buzzy ?? Didn't seem to make sense as she had a plan to blame Duffy for Aaron's death.
Aaron was already dead by that point. I think it's a short cut to get the police involved. They'll arrest Duffy and later when someone finds Aarons body with Duffy's bowling ball it would make it even easier to pin it on the poor guy. And having shot Buzzy (what's with the stupid names BTW) it would show that he wasn't in his right mind. Or something like that.

Other than Swayze. I loved how one of the headlights on his car wouldn't go down.

Wow, was everyone from the late 90's/early 00's in this film? Even young Jason Segel is in it.
As for the film itself, I didn't care for it much... I usually like this sort of movie, but it didn't do it for me. I didn't care for the individual stories, which is important once you get past the "gimmick" bit. The only one that I really liked and thought was interesting was the one with Hilary Swank and Shawn Hatosy. I could've watched a whole movie just with those two in the store. Maybe because they were actually interacting and not just running around. Or maybe it's because I have a thing for Shawn Hatosy lol.
Ben Foster losing his penis was pretty funny though. I hope that was intentional, or I need to seek profesional help.
Also, I really didn't like the music. I hate that jazzy music to begin with, and here it just distracted me. I'd even say it was annoying.
Idk, I should've loved it, and I see the appeal. It's an interesting concept and it's not a bad movie, but it was a miss for me. I much prefer Go over this one.

I didn't really think the individual stories mattered all that much. It was a short period of time during
one night. It didn't have a lot of time to develop anything. It was just a small snapshot of these
people's lives. Like your life. I'm sure it's an exciting interesting life but not everything you do
is that important. Other than to me of course.
If you think about it none of characters were really "good" people based on what we saw.
Some were down right evil. The only character that didn't do anything bad was Barbara Hershey's character.
All of the other one's were up to no good. That must be one hell of a town to live in.
There was absolutely nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING funny about Ben Foster losing his penis.
Looking for it, running with it down the street, when it got thrown back to him in the van was funny.

Who was worse- Cheri or Frank? Both did some pretty bad things.
Both had to do some fast thinking on their feet. Or her knees in Cheri's case.

It just felt to me like it was a bunch of shorts that were put in this framework of the bigger film. Yes, they were interconnected, quite well, but IDK, the whole tone felt a bit off to me for some reason. Maybe I just didn't "get" it.
Most people have it in them to be bad I think. If you're pushed by circumstance. I wouldn't call the teens bad people per se. They were idiot children, but that's normal. And then they got scared and drove off, which is also kind off normal. Only Cheri was actively, consciously (?) doing something bad, but again, she was in a situation she wanted to get out off, so she used a bunch of stupid men to do it.
It's not the losing of the penis, that is a horrible thing to happen. The whole situation surrounding it is what I meant, and Foster's acting (not bad, but funny).
Cheri was worse. As I said above, she was manipulating those men knowingly. It was premeditated if you will. All Frank did was throw a dead body over a bridge to save his little girl (well, not that little *wink wink, nudge nudge*). That led to some pretty bad things for the guy in the car under it, but it wasn't as if he meant for it to happen. And Cheri's "body count" is much larger. All of this pretty much happened because of her.
I don't know what I would've done if I was Frank. Cheri's keys were the only evidence that she was there, right? Did she pull up whats-his-name's pants? Probably done that and taken the keys and left it for someone else to deal with it. If I were covering it up.
I really don't think there anything to get. I think the whole thing was based around the time frame.
That was the title of the film. I think that it was what the director was going for.

Idiot children yes but does a good person drive off? Cheri's first intention was to just get the money
and leave town. She technically didn't do anything wrong other than being a bad person.
She didn't kill anybody.
She did leave the bowling ball but is that worse than dumping a body or running over a person
and leaving the scene?
Yes Frank was looking out for his "little" girl but look what he caused.
He didn't mean for it to happen but what do you expect is going to happen if you dump a body
to cover up a crime.
If you were covering it up you would be busted. Not only the keys but here in america we have
something called DNA. Hers would have been all over him. Pants up or not.
If he was a good father he would have burned the body or at least poured bleach over
the dude to get rid of the evidence.
I'll phone you for advice if I have to cover up a murder!

Teenagers aren't people yet. Their brain is literally different than ours. And they didn't mean to kill Cheri. I get it, they got scared and ran away, like kids do. Also, Cheri kind off did what the teens did with the head-squish guy. Not only did she run away, she planed to frame Duffy for it. If she wasn't playing all those guys none of this would even have happened. She is ultimately to blame for all of this.
I don't think that me sucking at covering up murder is a bad thing. But that's just me...

Poor Ben Foster! He picks the short straw no matter what show/movie he's in! I think he's my favorite, along with Hillary Swank,in this cast.

It's rare to find a movie with all these stars that I've never even heard of! I'm happy you chose this. This movie group has been good for finding new material! The cast is a who's who of up and coming movie stars. Also I'm wondering where some of these actors have gone. Where are Henry Thomas, Rachel Leigh Cook and Shawn Hatosy? They're all actors I've really liked in the past and I can't think of anything they've been in lately.
As everyone has mentioned, this plot device of showing simultaneous events happening out of order, was done quite a bit a few years ago. It's pretty clever, I mean, it can't be easy to write this type of story and keep it understandable. The first time I remember it was After Hours and I loved it but I'm pretty over it now.
It might have had a hard time finding an audience because the characters are all so cynical and hard. Buzzy was the only person with a conscience and a good heart. Poor thing, she was working hard to support her sister and do the right thing, and along comes this guy! Of course, I think she has a crush on him and I think they fooled around a bit but she's willing to do some insane things to please him.
I wish Colin Hanks and Ben Foster had bigger parts. Colin Hanks is so funny and Ben Foster is so brilliant. As others have said, it's always good to see Patrick Swayze. He was a charming actor.

At the beginning did you notice the guy on the bridge after the accident?
We now know it was Swayze but the first time you see it it was just a shadow.
They all seem to be working on TV mostly. Shawn Hatosy seems to have the most steady gigs. He's on Animal Kingdom now, but the last thing I watched him in was Southland (excellent show BTW).
And I liked his character the most out of all of them. But they were all pretty "unlikable", and we didn't have enough time to get to know them to be invested in their stories (well, me anyway).
Not reading any more than your OP. Never heard of this one before, and don't know why. Am waaay behind on ATM, but am going to watch this one. Afterwards I'll come back to this thread. All I can say for the moment is the cast is interesting, as are the opening credits.
