Minimalism, anybody?

Probably one of the best minimalist tales I have seen in a movie. The pattern is established so gently it can violate the rule of three to establish a pattern. First time through is a charm.
It must be hugely difficult to massage an energetic film crew into producing such a quiet, sad work of art.
The open end invites us to treat it either as comedy or tragedy, it treads such a fine line.

Any other good minimalist movies?

You should watch the films of Aki Kaurismäki. They are usually very minimalist.

Haneke's CACHÉ is similar in style but not regarding minimalism.

Chabrol's LA FEMME INFIDELE is minimalistic, too.

Be With Me, by Eric Khoo and Teresa Chang is a great, fairly minimal film, with some other interesting things going on aswell. In my opinion it's one of the greatest films of the decade, and hugely underated. I think you should check that out if you like this.

It is minimalist and very much in the manner of the films of Jim Jarmusch but with less humor.

The minimalism of Whisky worked splendidly. The cinematography except when the characters are in a car is purly static shots to show the stillness of their lives, the unvibrant quality it has. And kudos to the three main actors who enhance the minimalism with subtle expressions to indicate the deep seeded feelings ans tensions they all share.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".
