What happend to Marta?

Did she kill her self or something?

Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating

reply

She did not kill herself.

I think that she found out that she doesn't really want to work for this guy anymore or be around him. He was such a pain in the butt character. He even won a great sum of money and still went to work the next day. Wasn't even happy.

It was all a fake.
The marriage, the photo they took, the wedding trip.
Fake as the smile when they went to take the photo together(WHISKY).

What was the message on the letter she gave the brother?

Maybe: Meet me.. etc.

Or probably "it was all fake, I'm not his wife", etc.

During the scene when Marta gave the note to Herman I also thought that she wanted Herman to know that everything had been a sham...

I also think they ran away as lovers. With the money that Jacobo gave to her, she probably just bought a ticket to Porto Alegre and went to meet Herman.

I thought it too, but now I've read the other posts, it makes more sense that she'd killed herself, not only "logically" but with the rest of the movie and the ruitnary-depressing style.

At first I was shocked that Marta failed to show up to work...but then I believed that she eventually did show up because he needed her. He not only needed her to help with the "marriage" scam to fool his brother, he also needed her to be there at the factory. Marta is the type of woman who would show up to work - not kill herself!

I really liked the movie, I thought it was amazing the acting was excellent. I don't think that Maria showed up to work again cuz she always on time, even before the lites went on - really liked how the same scene of the lights going on represents the routine, which is what finally makes us take other decision to defeat theday-after-day. I think she went to Brazil- but i'm not sure,we'll never know-cuz she said that she'd like to go there, to know the waterfalls. With this movie you don't know where exactly the characters come from and where they go; really loved that. Great movie to me 9/10.

I think Marta explained everything to Herman when she went to his room at the hotel, when she gave him the note at the airport, it was probably to meet up with him again.(probably written backwards)I think Herman meantioned something to her about finally seeing Brazil, earlier she said she and Jacobo had had their made up honeymoon there.
I was surprised Jacobo wrapped up so much money and gave it to her in the end.Maybe she felt like a prostitute after getting that money and went off to Herman asap.

I got the impression that once she realised the amount of the money she had been given, Marta decided to go out on her own to explore the world rather than stay in the factory job.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".
