The Kubrick reference on the surface is the "A Clockwork Orange" theme regarding the street gangs and violence. The camera even pans to a movie poster of that same title. Frankie is Alex and his former gang-member cohorts are his droogs.

But underlying this surface reference, the Kubrick theme that relates back to "16 Years Of Alcohol" is one of lost redemption. Or perhaps the lost chance of redemption would be more accurate.

Their characters aren't meant to be reproductions of the Clockwork characters... their actions and attitudes were simply inspired by the Clockwork characters.

Just saw the underpass scene on Sundance Channel. Absolutely an homage to A Clockwork Orange, right down to the lighting. Very nice.

Question your humanity--everyone else does.
