Not to be a troll here...

But just voicing my opinion on this. I recently caught this at Flashback Weekend in Rosemont, IL (Chicago) and thought it was horrible. Like really really really bad. Bad sets, bad acting, BLAH. Tell me (and I'm asking seriously), is this SUPPOSED to be a bad film? Like campy bad? Then I could see it - but being TRULY scared by THIS film? Maybe I was drunk... or not drunk enough...

reply

Yeah, I saw it there too. Were you in the first showing or the second?

Anyway, yeah, probably the worst movie I've ever seen.

I caught it mid-evening on Saturday night in the screening room. Had the room to myself while everyone else was waiting in line upstairs in the heat to see 'The Vamps'.

reply

Actually, I too was at that very screening. The ONLY reason we stayed to watch that whole movie was because there was nothing else to do at the convention at that time (except to wait in line for the Vamps).

I don't know why they chose to show this movie. There might have been an explanation at the earlier screening, but I wasn't aware of any of the cast or crew present at the convention (I could be wrong). I just seems like there are a lot of other recent releases they could have shown, maybe even another "Masters of Horror" selection.

I am generally the kind of person who can appreciate a bad movie, either for its camp value or my own fascination with how badly it was made. But there are some movies that are just bad-bad, including this one. Nothing made sense. I am willing to suspend disbelief, but only so far. Others have already posted most of the continuity errors, so I won't bother.

Granted, the cinemetography is pretty good, but nothing I haven't seen before. And I can only take so much running through the woods, especially long after a film has overstayed its welcome. Side note: In most films the first person point of view of the camera is that of the "monster" chasing the victim, as in Evil Dead. So then, if this is the point of view of the Jersey Devil, why is he running through the woods and not flying? One more thing: It's January. Close your f'n car window.

I think Tomaselli has the potential to make some worthwhile movies, but only with some better scripts and planning. You don't need a big budget for a good story. I've been told that I either didn't get the movie or that I'm over analyzing. Possibly, but I don't think so. The point is nothing made me care about the movie or its characters. I didn't really even hate it, which would have been something. Zero emotional response. Utterly pointless and unfulfilling.

My apologies to those whom I've offended.

Who gives a *beep* what Variety has to say? arullis you sound like an idiot.

reply

arullis. You sound like a Tony Rullis. An associate producer that leaves its crap in places it shouldn't.

this is probably my favorite thread of the summer.

As soon as members of the production flame in topics like this I thank them for letting me know this is not a movie to watch.

LMFAO! arullis = p0wn3d

Only THE most worthless piece of crap films have people closely associated with the film defending it on IMDB! They usually get friends and family to vote straight 10's to get the film an initial good rating! I've seen it dozens of times before. Quite sad, but very funny! :D

This is indeed, sh!te

reply

LOL< u got CAUGHT UP rullis. Now i'm definitly not seeing this. I hate frauds who pawn their crap movies.

reply

the fact that you can't find a trailer anywhere online should tell you what kind of floating turd this movie is. Even Gigli had a trailer

reply

Well any untalanted film maker could do a horror movie, right?
Not in this case. This movie is utterly worthless. Horrible acting, boring camerawork and a useless script. I saw someone complementing the music. Well in comparassment to the rest, it's mediocre, not much more.
Don't waste you time with this crap. Spend it with a better movie.

reply

This one didn't really do it for me either but I did like how the music score started to sound like the "michael meyers pursuing his victim" during the climax of Satans Playground. Some of the shots in this area were reminiscent of "Halloween 5" also. Nice homage but we've already heard and seen it done better before.
I liked the Evil Dead point-of-view style of the creature lurking in the woods but it grew old fast because it was used too frequently. Yes, I understand this movie didnt have a budget so it would have cost too much to actually show the creature or the creature flying.
Does Tomaselli have a nose fetish? He seemed to enjoy glorifying side views of Ellen Sandweiss and Felissa Rose's noses in the car.
My boy Ed Neale was good but he didnt get enough screen time. His character was far more interesting than the Bruno family. Oh well, cant win them all. Anyhoo, the movie is worth a watch i guess, but don't expect too much.

reply

Just saw it, and I'm not impressed. Personally, I think the problem with this movie is that director Tomaselli seems to have no idea what makes a horror movie work. Night mare logic worked for guys like Argento and Fulci, but that's because they understood atmosphere and dread, while Tomaselli thinks that just randomly throwing things in will automatically make it a good horror movie. Plus, he has no idea how to properly use the horror veterens he's working with.

Better luck next time, Tommy Boy.

I wanted to love this movie. I kept an open mind. there's some good stuff here, but the acting is absolutely terrible! only Ellen Sandweiss and Ed Neal do their jobs well. the rest of the cast came off like first timers. too bad. Some good atmosphere and camera shots can't overcome a bad script and even worse delivery. That said, I look forward to the next film from Tomaselli because I believe his heart is in the right place. he wants to make a real horror film for true horror fans.

reply

Very good point lucio: "Some good atmosphere and camera shots can't overcome a bad script and even worse delivery"
The script was just too weak. It felt like it copy-catted a dozen other horror films we've all seen without any of the magnetism or enjoyability.
The dude who played Felissa Rose's husband seriously needs to go back to acting school. Ellen Sandweiss was okay but didn't have much to play with. Rose was a decent lead but lacked likeable character. She acted like one of those annoying housewives that people love to hate. Aren't we supposed to feel for her and want to see her make it out alive? This may be more a problem with Tomaselli's faulty direction than Rose's acting. The old woman and Ed Neal were the best performances here but as you pointed out, what can they really do if the script is bad and cliche? The characters here were just plain dull. I didn't care what happened to any of them one way or the other.
I think your right that Tomaselli's heart is in the right place, judging from the way he talks about horror films. Also the fact that he actually gets his films made is a feat to be admired. Lots of youngin wannabe filmmakers are all talk and no product but Tomaselli atleast makes a finished product, even if it isn't the greatest. Maybe if he sits down and spends more time fleshing out his scripts before shooting them, then maybe his next effort wont be so lacking and cliche.

reply

I really enjoyed this movie. I've never seen a Tomaselli film (though I own Desecration) and I think he's someone to look out for.

I will agree that this isn't for everyone. The fever dream conceptual ideas are sometimes just too much for people. I don't blame them, linear storytelling is usually best, but I liked the lushness of the production and I thought the acting was very good, especially Rose and the lady who played Mrs. Leeds.

Plus, I've seen a lot of crap, so it's always nice to see a film where you know someone had their heart in it! :)

reply

I liked the musical score too. There was one point though where it took a comedic turn and I wasn't sure if that was intended. Maybe the filmmaker and/or composer was just trying to let us know they are aware it is a little cheesey. Low budgets will do that to a flick.

I thought the acting was mostly capable. There were a few directions the script could've taken that would have been a little more satisfying, but in the end it was, as one of my friends so aptly described my first effort, "well, it's a movie." That in itself is an accomplishment of sorts.

reply

I love how comments are deleted so easily on IMDb. I wrote, basically agreeing with you and making valid points about why I hated this movie, and of course someone had them immediately deleted. But I guess if it makes a filmmaker and his friends feel better to prowl around message board eliminating any trace of unbiased opinions not in THEIR favor, who am I to stop them?
