scab segment?

what did you think of this? what did yuo think of the comments after?

I was wondering about this. I came here with the off chance that someone would reply, but I haven't seen any recent activity here in a long time.

Anyway I found it kinda weird that they wasted a segment on the scabs, and after making them out to be like a cinderella team, or a storybook team you would watch in a sports movie. After the highlights of the scabs beating the Cowboys, Marino flat out says these guys were basically nobodies who took money away from the real players and did not contribute anything.

I thought it was kind of arrogant on their part, assuming these blue collar guys had no place in the NFL and did not deserve a spot even though they showed they could play.

Overall the comments were pretty obnoxious. What's wrong with everyday people training and taking over their positions, it wasn't like they were going to play.

They hated the scabs because they were willing to play for less basically.

i like marino but he came off as kinda bad in that segment.i realize they were trying to make things better, but they weren't exactly coalminers or steelworkers.

anybody know what the league minimum was in '87?it's $300k now for first year players

reply

I don't know what they were making but Marino shot down the scabs pretty quickly and harshly. I guess he was mad because he went through that period and he was one of the strikers, along with Collinsworth and Carter. Union workers are supposed to hate replacements, it's part of their contract I believe.

I thought Marino came off as petty and a little clueless.

There was no need to put these guys down.....they were just following their dream and took the opportunity.

I would have too. Playing in the NFL is and honor and a dream job. Mining for coal or manufacturing goods in a factory is most definately not.

They were not typical scabs literally putting working families in jeopardy....they were just guys taking the opportunity to play a childs game one last time.

Good for them.
