Turning into the Jerry Springer show

They need to come up with better episode topics. I did not bother watching the one about people with strange sexual fetishes in this latest season. It was dumb and looked like an episode of Jerry Springer. The lack of quality in topics can't be because they're running out of things to cover, they've got many resources they're not tapping into.

Well this last episode I saw about "Freaky Remedies" was less Jerry Springer and more Sunday morning religious TV.

For example: Just because someone lives in an exotic part of the world and believes that X is a cure for X disease, and has nothing but their "faith" as proof, doesn't mean you should give them credit and boost their ego (and profits of course) by featuring the latest snake oil salesmen on an international TV show.

I lost count of how many times the narrator told us that these things have been used by ancient cultures for thousands of years... as if that was supposed to mean something to us. As if the medical and scientific knowledge of an ancient culture thousands of years ago, basically living in their own little middle of nowhere, completely sheltered from the outside world, was so great and that we should be looking to them for advice.

But don't you know that faith makes everyone's beliefs valid? I can tell anyone that I pray to a 2000-year-old zombie and not get laughed at, so obviously there are people out there who'd respect that I use an ancient magical potion to cure disease.

These pretzels are making me thirsty!
