How did they make Ireland look like America?


I'm guessing most of the exterior shots were done in Ireland but it didn't feel like it, may be because it's sunny (joke). I just assumed they had substituted Ireland with some generic Irish looking locations in the U.S. Got some real Irish actors & some who could do Hollywood version of an Irish accent & job done.

The only genuine shots of Ireland was the aerial scene at the beginning. The rest of the movie was shot somewhere that was most definitely NOT Ireland, which was a real disappointment. I guess they couldn't afford the production costs of a location shoot, and had to substitute, but it never at any time felt like they were actually in Ireland, not to me anyway.
