Worst Gay Film EVER *spoilers*

This movie is so homophobic and fake. No self respecting gay man would allow his family to destroy his relationship with the man he loves, and a man that age acting like a coward who also happens to be a cop!! The ending was totally lame, homophobia wins out in the end, the couple splits up, the gay cop marries an evil straight gaybashing woman, and the more passive guy ends up with some random guy he met on the phone. This isnt a feel good movie, this is a film that reminds gay men that homophobia can destroy their lives. this film is a piece of crap!!

I've watched the movie again a few days ago, and all I can say to your take on it is:
Lighten up a bit!

It's a comedy, it doesn't have to be true to life.
That said, I don't think parents successfully trying to interfere in their kids' relationships is that unusual. And closeted gays working in macho jobs, who act like cowards when it comes to their secret, isn't unrealistic either.

As for the ending, I don't see homophobia winning out at all.
Angelo's parents accept him and his new boyfriend, and Pina, the evil, straight, -- where do you get "gaybashing" from? I never saw her lurk in a dark alley with a baseball bat -- woman deludes herself that she "cured" Nino, who still goes on "camping trips" with cute guys.

A film that goes for a - more or less - realistic take on a relationship in a homophobic environment is not "a piece of crap". This movie was based on the author's real life, and despite the comedic side it does carry an important message. Because it is not necessarily a "feel good movie" does not mean that it does not have its value.

It's not so dark,
but I agree,
ending was lame
and a little bit homophobic.

If you think the turn of events in this movie was unrealistic you are incredibly naive. Yes the ending is kind of a downer but it is totally realistic.

This movie is not unrealistic, I'm in a simmilar situation, and my family (though not italian) has the same closeness and same gossiping going on. The homophobic elements in it are real, it's a lot harder to chose between the one you love and the family you really really love despite them being homophobic, and the fear of losing one drives you insane. What made Nino a coward wasnt that he was closeted, what made him weak was that he didn't have the gut to stand up and at least defend that homosexuality isn't what those people say it was.

I actually liked this movie a lot, and though Nino's life ended up the way it did, didn't make me feel so bad, because at the end (though lame and corny) Angelo's family accepted he was gay and were willing to change a little bit for his sake. I understand that doesn't mean much to you, but to me that is something nice as I doubt my family will ever show me that courtesy.

And you keep saying ''no self respecting gay man'' and reminds gay men that homophobia..'' lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, transsexual people, we're all in the same boat here when it comes to this, and that feeling of having to choose between yourself and those you love is something most people feel related to.

I find this movie realistic with a little corniness throws through it.. and it did make me feel better.

Joker:They don't make straitjackets like they used to. I should know.
