Small movie, But also a good movie

When I started to see this movie, I didn't expect much.
When the movie ended, I was surprised -- I didn't think that it'll be this good.
Good acting, good laughs, pretty good script and actors that are not well known (expect Paul Sorvino).
This movie delivers, and it delivers great.
It's a small movie, with a big heart.
8\10.

Agree.

I saw this movie on TV, and just left the dial on that channel only to confirm that this was a worthless movie. As it happens when I get ready for the worst, I was nicely surprised. Very rarely one gets to see a movie that is funny and serious at the same time. Of course the actors are all first class, it has a fast pace, and the story is very good.

It is a pity that we waste so much time on worthless movies while little jewels like this go unnoticed.

I really LOL when I read Mr-KoRn's comment that the actors are not well known. Obviously he's not French Canadian.

Ginette Renaud who played Maria, the mother, has a set of pipes on her that would out-do Céline Dion any day. She's an extremely well known singer in Canada and Europe. She had an English signing career when she first started in the business but decided to concentrate only on the French community.

Sophie Lorain who plays the girlfriend Pina is the daughter of one of the most famous women in Québec. Sophie is a very well known actor and producer. Although I find she didn't do as good an acting job on this movie as she usually does.

Pierrette Robitaille, who played Rosetta (the garden lady) is an extremely gifted character actress whom I love in every role she plays.

I had never heard of Peter Miller (Nino) or Claudia Ferri (Anna) before the movie but I have seen them both in other things since. They even played a "couple" in a very good short lived TV show a while ago.

And who doesn't know Mary Walsh (Lina, Nino's mother) from 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes'. Another extremely gifted comical actress.

Another extremely gifted comical character actress is Diane Lavallée (Mélanie, Pina's best friend) who has created such wonderful roles for so many years!

I guess being well known depends on what people watch so I guess it's subjective. But let me say to anyone who is interested, the actors I've mentioned ARE known, and not only to québecers because I'm not a québecer.

And because of that his/her comment is correct, they are not know in here either (Mexico), but that's not important, the movie is good, it has good messages, good laughs, (and now that i know about them) good actors, all this in a small movie with no stupid pretentions

Peter Miller is such a hunk. Im trying to find the movie " table a cinq" but its not available in USA. Does anyone know whether Peter Miller is gay??Thanks!
IMDB has a pic of him with his arm over an ugly guy.
I truly enjoy the movie. I never even know the cable now has a Gay chanel"LOGO" where this movie was shown.

reply

No, Peter Miller is not gay. See my other post about this.

The photo of Peter with his hand over the guy's shoulder, the guy is the director of Mambo Italiano.

I thought Paul Sorvino was superb in this movie. He and the woman who played his wife were PRICELESS. That scene of them scheming about what they would do at Nino's wedding was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Truly a classic of comedy!!
Every actor did a great job on this film. I thought it was hilarious and charming from start to finish.

You bring up an interesting point of view with regard to what is known or not known. I am, I'll admit, among the many viewers who were not familiar with many of the actors and, yet, that was by no means a disadvantage as I found their performances so enjoyable. Your listing of backgrounds piques my interest even more. Ignorance is not bliss and, thankfully, the Internet can provide some quick fixes. As a curiosity, it is interesting to note how well American culture is known beyond its shores but it takes a little more work on our part to catch up and find out what's going on elsewhere. Thank you for the information.
