The Interrogation of Michael Crowe!

Hey...

Do you guys think this will be a good movie, which is based on the actual events? I hope it stays as close to what really happened as possible and not add or change some things as other movies which are based on actual events have done.

The Crowes have declined other production companies about making a movie about their story, but when Court TV approached them about it, they thought Court TV would be an appropriate company to do the film!

Hey...

I'm not so sure about it being completely accurate, but for the most part it was...

They didn't have the Grandmother in the film, and changed a few things in it... There was a part where Stephen got a phone call that they arrested the killer, and said that it was his son... That really happened, but he didn't wait until he visited his son to ask him about it like he did in the movie! In real life, he asked Michael about it over the phone.

And when their lawyer noticed the blood splatters on Tuite's sweater, I believe that was done inside, rather thatn outside like it was displayed on the film.

But the interrogation part was very much accurate, infact they copied the lines from the actual interrogation tapes, and read everything word by word... The interrogation was the main part for the movie anyways, so that's why it was done with the most accurate details.

It was also done to get the word out about interrogations, and how the police can get false confessions... I hope this movie will make aware the point of how needed it is to record ALL confessions, so that this can't be done to other people.

I just finished watching the movie, does anyone know wether the Crowes won there civil case, or is it still pending. Also, did the police force involved ever apologize for the in-approprite and damaging way they reated Michael. Was the drifter ever convicted.

reply

The Crowes' civil case is still pending, as far as I know!

I don't think the police apologized in anyway, because for them to do that, they would have to admit that they were wrong and that's not going to happen!

Richard Tuite (The Drifter) was charged, but not convicted... The pre-trial is set for Janurary 6th... The actual trial should start sometime in April or May!

Damn, this was a good movie. I can't believe it is a "TV" movie. The boy who played Michael Crowe was brilliant. Plus the movie really kept close to the truth - and that's really rare these days.

is it the 6th of this year that such a shame he should die for what he did

reply

most of what they say is in the actual events of this film. the power of the police is just bad not only did they put false events into his head but not belive him and make him out for him to be the killer. i mean come on how could any one kill their sister.

Saw this movie recently on a FTA channel, Zone Reality X, and yes, this is realy scary stuff, and those police men still doing their work ? brrr, thats scary too !
Did they ever trialed the true killer ? are any sites about this ?

Richard Tuite was convicted, I think in 2004. I think most of the civil suit was thrown out (unbelievable) but I'm not sure about that. Try googling, there are still some news articles and stuff.

What I want to know is... was Michael let go? I can not remember!

reply

Yeah! Although he was kept in custody for ages, he has been free since the charges against him were dropped when they found the evidence against Tuite.

I thought this film was excellent. Mark Rendall was amazing as Michael Crowe. Ally Sheedy and Michael Riley were likewise terrific as his parents.

Wow, a thread with posts going all the way back to 2002. It's rare to find posts that old on IMDb.

If this is a consular ship, where is the ambassador?

reply

Not at all, I see old posts all the time. Look and I'm still here and my last post was in 2006.

The level of detail used in this movie is very impressive. The only things I caught that were wrong was that they didn't portray that the grandmother had been the one to find her and the Crowes were taken to a hotel the first night instead of the uncle's.

I live in Escondido and went to school with both Michael and Stephanie. He was in my "smart-kid classes" (dunno if people anywhere else know what the GATE program is) and she was a member of my lunch group the year before her murder. She was very bubbly and he was fairly quiet. Josh never came back to school, but Aaron and Michael (I think) did. I may be thinking of somebody else in Michael's case, but Aaron came back and finished with the rest of us. He's a really smart and low-key guy, so seeing them tried like that makes it that much more heinous.

Whoops, just realized how old this post is. Oh well. Have a summary of what's gone down since then:

-Michael's family won $7.25 million for the mistrial
-Tuite was convicted but then appealed and won. The evidence plausibly could have been contaminated and is thus thrown out
-No one else has been accused of murdering Stephanie
-Final Fantasy VII continues to be a game that is NOT all about killing and fantasy. The fact that the cops didn't even look into the plot and took it as damning evidence is ridiculous

By the way, Tuite has been diagnosed with Schizophenia. He was confused and looking for his ex-girlfriend Tracy that night, possibly in a schizophrenic episode. Draw your own conclusions.
