What was the point of an audience for the 2nd and 3rd tasks?

They couldn't see a damn thing that was going on! They could see who the winners ended up being, but is it really worth it to sit there for an hour or more just to see who wins? Itd be like going to a football game, seeing the kickoff, then the game is played elsewhere, except for the final 10 seconds.

I think it's meant to enhance the feeling of unity. Everyone gets to participate. Maybe they were magically keeping the spectators appraised of their progress.

I've always wondered the same about F1 and other racing sports.

reply

Then you do not follow F1 and do not know that every track has Jumbotron videos all around the track so the fans can see the entire race. Also, Sky Sports provides a complete real-time live broadcast from green flag to checkered flag, so fans can have access to that feed through our mobile devices.

reply

That wasn't always the case though?

reply

I never even thought about that and I wouldn't. It all goes toward the plot?

reply

By the looks of it they all had fun.

reply

I guess it's fun to see random bubbles come out from the lake. I dunno, they didn't have tv or phones so just staring at nothing for an hour with all your friends around might be acceptable in that universe.

reply

People gather for races, even marathons and some car races, where they don't see anyone after the starting gun until they return to the finishing lines. People who love a sport, or are excited about the participants, often gather even if they don't see a lot of the actual "event."

reply

But don't they have tv or commentators telling them what's going on at least in real life? It seems the people "spectating" this tournament had no other source of info but their own eyes.

They really should have invented some bullshit magic excuse for everyone to see. Like a one way mirror/wall thing or something. They have magic for a ton of things, not like we can't stretch our disbelief a bit more.

reply

Not to mention after the first event had freaking dragons, to then go to staring at a lake and a maze, really lackluster. People watch races sure but considering these were all life threatening events with seemingly a decent bit of action and suspense, doesn't feel like something people who are ok with watching water do nothing and a maze do nothing for an hour would come too or the type of people who would be interested in watching nothing for an hour.

reply

As I've said, the tournament seems to absolutely suck as a spectator sport!

Unless there's some kind of magical jubotron up in front of the audience, or the wizarding world, so everyone can see what's going on. Maybe they don't mention it to the participants, because they don't want them playing to the camera.

Just to see who comes out first. I guess it’s like waiting to hear the results of a court case, you don’t get to watch the jury discussing the case and reaching their decision.

reply

I don’t think anyone has ever accusers J. K. Rowling of being particularly bright.
