applause

I'm an even greater kitano-fan after 'dolls'...

reply

even though dolls is not one of his best movies there is not doubt that kitano is one of the top 5 directors these days. Takeshi is top class; and yes, a long applause for his cinema. Many thanks, Kitano.

I am have to add that I am also a great fun of Kitano's Dolls. It was one a the very few movies that really moved me! More applause!!

Ps. Does anyone knows where to find the soundtrack of the Dolls? Have anyone seen it?

I spent alot of money and time getting my hands on this film, and it was more than worth it. As i live nowhere near any of the theatres showcasing this film, i took the risk of ordering from amazon.co.jp. it cost an insane amount when customs and shipping are concerned, but it was worth it. i have every other kitano film, and this rounds of my collection perfectly. I was incredibly moved by this story, and i think it ranks amongst Kitano's best. Brilliant film, kudos to the man for making another great one.

I'm with you. This is one of the Kitano's Best, and i don't know why another people don't think so.
The soundtrack is composed by the GREAT Joe Hisaishi. You can find info about it and another soundtracks of masters like Kitano or Hayao Miyazaki on the official page: www.joehisaishi.com.
My english is not very good... sorry.

Kitano is just a genius like Yimou and many others in asia. I love their movies... Kikujiro´s summer, Spirited away, no more less, hero, monzon´s wedding...so good

Kitano is Kurosawa's little brother in my eyes
i love his movies

Miike's a hack. I love some of his movies but really, he's a hack. I've seen every film of his that's been released in America. I'm obviously afan. I just don't think he's very talented.

On the other hand, I've seen 5 of Takeshi's films and every one has been genius. I can't wait to watch the rest!

applause.
takeshi never ceases to amaze me.

I love Zatoici, i know this is way diff, but where can i find it, i want to see it badly...do i have to buy it online?
i cannot abide useless people.

Raven, (if you live in the USA) check the Blockbuster previously-viewed pile. I always see a zillion copies of Zatoichi and Sonatine for like $9. I'm hoping Dolls will show up sooner or later.

Kitano's style is amazing. Each shot is like a photograph, and he's not afraid to sit on it for a while for maximum effect. He also makes great use of silence. I don't know if this is typical of Japanese cinema, but it's a refreshing change from Hollywood!

i saw this last night courtesy of netflix and i've got to say i think its one of takeshi's best! the visuals/texture of the film is so rich....and more potent than dialog would have been. must see film. of course, i'm a takeshi fan.
