Japanese movies

Wow i have kind of a crush with Japanese culture since last year thanks to miyazaki great anime work. I loved every movie of his, and i am also a big fan of the director of seven samurai, and ran. But what I'm trying to find is Japanese movies that have a warm heart feeling like miyazaki but also non anime movies like ran. Before you give me a big list i was thinking of modern or at least color movies, and a type of comedy romance. Thank a lot for this, it's hard to find good non anime movies that have japanese culture.

yeah i agree.. my interest has started a while ago and im looking for that kind of japanese movies.. if i find some ill let you know as well..

did you watch Nobody Knows? and After Life?

Since we're on the Kitano bored I'm just going to recommend Kikujiro and call it a day.

It's not Japanese but I'd recommend the Korean movie "Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom" ("Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter") for those who liked Dolls. They are both slow movies, with 10/10 cinematography and vague in a good way.

I wish there were more like Dolls and would also love to hear any recommendations of similar films (just looking at the director's list now).

I'm not familiar with miyazaki, but if you want Japanese movies with a warm heart feeling (modern, colour, comedy), I recommend...

5. Summer Time Machine Blues
6. Rainbow Kids
7. University of Laughs
8. Shiki-Jitsu [Ritual] - a little on the heavy side but a great film by the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hideaki Anno
