I just heard it for the first time in years and bawled like a baby lol I'm hoping it will be on this season- I couldn't find it anywhere last year....

reply

I bawl every time I hear it.

reply

it really is a beautiful song. always makes me cry.

reply

I've always thought it was sad, but this year means a little bit more: my mom's mom died the day after Christmas last year, and three years ago, my dad's mom passed away about a week before Christmas. So ya, now I actually do cry.

"Congratulations!!! You have reached the number you most recently dialed!!!"

reply

My aunt passed away on December 19th from cancer when she was only 38 and my two cousins were 6 and 9, which the songs makes me think about which is why I tend to cry. Not so much from the song itself, but because I can relate to the story in real life.

reply

I'm so sorry to hear that.

~May peace rain down from Heaven~

I cry everytime I hear this song! My girls got me the DVD for Christmas last year and I play it throughout the entire year. With respect to your statment of being a very sad song...yes, the story is sad, but what I see is the happiness, love and emotion of realizing what we have...experience love in its purest form and from a child's heart! My tears are those of Blessings and thankfulness!

every time. every single time.

Glad I'm not the only blubbering fool every time that song comes on the radio.

I'm one of the most compassionate people I know - I've yet to see E.T without crying like a baby. But, I'm afraid when I saw this film for the first time this afternoon, I did the complete opposite to you guys - I laughed - lots. I thought it was so damn cheesy and so expositional - it was a god awful song. Completely cheapened the film for me - it numbed the drama of the film - the son's ambition to make his mum feel special on her death bed. What a shame.

... Attaboy, Clarence. Attaboy!

The song that goes "I wanna buy my Momma these shoes?"

Or whatever.

I have to say, if it IS that one... I cried. But only with laughter. I was sitting there with my mum watching it this afternoon and it was all sad and we were teary then this song came on and we just looked at eachother like HUH?!

I thought it was silly, sorry. lol

Here's the story.... two Chistmases ago, i was flipping through the radio in my room when i come across this song that touched my heart, about the boy wanting to buy a special pair of shoes for his dying mother. I told my mom about the song and waited for about 7 hours straight for the song to come back on the radio so i could let her hear it. I couldn't even call the radio station because i didn't know the title of the song. Then, just as i was about to give up. My mom yelled up the stairs that a Christmas special was going to be onthat looked really good. It was called th Christmas Shoes. I nearly jumped down the stairs screaming THAT'S IT!!! The movie was unbelievablly sad... I wish I had seen all of the sequel.
