Larry the Cable Guy

I have a few questions, did anyone else that watched this notice that his accent wasn't there in the stores as much as when he was on stage. Also what in the world is the get-r-done mean?

reply

ok Im not sure if the message board GOds will allow me to say this but get-r-done means exactly what it says.... Get Her Done like Do her

reply

No, no, no..."Get-R-Done" has absolutely no sexual overtones to it (check out Larry's website and read his commentaries if you need more proof of this.) He just uses the expression as an exclamation after he says something he wants to emphasize or feels is particularly witty. I suppose if you really wanted to get technical, you might say "Get-R-Done" is roughly equivalent to "let's go!" but it really doesn't have any particular textbook "meaning" or definition. It's just his own personal exclamatory phrase like "yee-haw!" or "woah boy!"

reply

Exactly...DrumCore is right...It really has no meaning. Like Jeff's is "You might be a redneck..." Bill's is "Here's your sign." and Ron's "trademark" is basically drunk jokes or jokes bout drinking. Do you get what I mean?

reply

You guys are putting too much into it, damn, just have a good time watching it.

reply

Basically he's a slobbering, lumbering imbecile. Get-r-dun is a stupid catch phrase reserved for fat, drunk, hillbillys.

Hey fu**er, what do you have against the South? Since you have found the need to post your stupidity on just about every other post on this subject, please enlighten us on what makes you a better person that someone from the South. ...and for the love of God, if you plan on mentioning NASCAR and beer drinking then just don't bother, your obviously ignorant to the world around you if you think this is every household in the South.

Concerning "Here's Your Sign": When Bill Engvall first did the routine, he prefaced it by saying that stupid people should have to wear signs that say "I'm stupid." That way, you wouldn't rely on them. So he talks about someone doing something stupid, offers a sarcastic response, and then "Here's Your Sign."

I was looking through old posts and found this gem. 9 years later? Sure I'll reply. The South is verbally and symbolically fighting a war it physically lost
150 years ago. The "Southern Nationalist" movement and it's desire to clean up history by claiming the Confederate Constitution hardly mentions slavery. "It's about state's rights" they say. "The slaves were treated as family". I never heard the term "Yankee" in a negative light until I moved here 11 years ago. I came here for the weather and certainly not the culture.

When did that become a bad thing? That offends me... I am from the south...

"When the **** did we get ice cream!"

reply

hey well you know what? larry the cable guys awesome and yeah...he has an accent but you notice when you get exited and hyper as he is on stage your voice will do all sorts of things...and get r done or get her done doesnt mean to do her it just an expression.

reply

Larry the Cable Guy's accent is fake because he is originally from south eastern Nebraska - not from wherever his accent is from. And just to clarify .... people in Nebraska don't have accents. Some act and look like Larry but that is true for most states.

reply

Actually, a lot of people who grow up in the rural Midwest have a kind of accent. Also, if you do some further research, you'll find that Larry has lived near Orlando for the past 27 years or so, and yes, a lot of people in Florida, esp. the nothern parts, have southern accents, and yes, you can pick up other peoples' accents by being around them. I know technically Orlando is central Florida... Am I saying that there's not a bit of hamming it up in his accent? No, I'm sure there is... But I also don't think it's a total put-on, either. There are rednecks in every state in the Union.

reply

Correct. I have relatives from deep southern Iowa and Nebraska, and they have an almost pseudo-southern accent.

reply

Get-r-done. Basically 'get it done'. When said really fast, and with a southern accent, it makes a small amount of sense. Listen to the Jeff Foxworthy countdown (if possible...) they always have a part with Larry the Cable Guy on it. It is a country countdown, so if you don't like country, do whatever floats your boat!
