Untied Up Stories + Overall Impression

The untied up story lines makes "The Ranch" less satisfying than it could have been. Well that and the whole bringing things up and never mentioning them again, which got to be annoying by the end.

The acting caliber really made the film watchable. Only the teenage boy, little girl and ex-husband were over the top bad acting. All the other players got the right tone for a real live person. The movie doesn't pretend to be a documentary, and it wasn't, you could still get an idea of how American bordellos are in the 2000s. Although it was more realistic than movies like Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

I'm impressed that just about all the actors who played characters who worked at The Ranch have gone on to have healthy acting careers after this movie. It gives me hope that people can play a risque role without getting stigmatized by a character they pretend to be.

At least through the 1960s, an actor could be tainted and have their career ruined by playing certain roles like gay, prostitute, psychopath, etc.

I think this movie originally supposed to be a pilot for a 1-hour TV series, although the relationship between fiance and fiancee would have worked better for an entire season or two. Two questions I've got are why are such beautiful women working as prostitutes, especially Jessica Collins Alpha-female.

No, I'm laughing with you not at{against} you!

That explains a lot, RamRichards. Adding a statement on the end about the series pilot would do the filmmakers a favor. The way it is now makes it seem like a bunch of people who don't know how to tell a story in the movie format got together a made a film.

Believe me, I've seen plenty of indie films where that was the case. Obviously, they didn't know how to wrap things up so the movie just basically ended. Then put the "artistic and challenging" label on to try to hide the fact.
