CHRIS COOPER

once again Chris Cooper shows himself
as one of the most uncannily effective actors in the movies.
Here he seems old, pale and a little worn out.

In "Adaptation," only a year ago,
he was a sunburned swamp rat.
In John Sayles' "Lone Star" he was a ruggedly handsome Texas sheriff.

How does he make these transformations?

Here, with a few sure movements
and a couple of quiet words,
he convinces us that what he doesn't know about horses isn't worth knowing

Good shout, ive been on a little Cooper run by chance of late catching him is Adaption and Great Expectations. And of cousre he is probably best remembered as the crazy war dad in American Beauty,

He is one of those actors who if you were asked to name the best he probably wont feature, but he silently steals whatever film he is put in and is always solid, as shallow as it sounds his biggest fault is maybe not being hollywood attractive enough

Let's not forget "July Johnson" in the Lonesome Dove, one of the best mini series of all time. He held his own and the cast was full of amazing actors.

and I am, after all, me.

Came here to find like minded people who thought Chris Cooper was great in this film...

...Was not disappointed.

I dig his intensity in everything he does and I dig that you don't remember what films he was in...but that he leaves a lasting impression on you with every character. I could not easily name other movies that he was in without sitting down and really thinking.

Don't know of any other actors that give that same kind of performance where they blend in and tell the story.

Chris Cooper is one of those actors who, no matter how small his role, as soon as you see him you know it's going to be a good movie.

He was good in The Horse Whisperer, too - I wonder if he's into horses in real life? Seems like he is very comfortable around them.

I've never seen him before as far as I can remember. His sympathetic character, Tom Smith is who really set this movie up for me.
