In the end...?

Curious: Does the 'Biscuit actually win that last race or not?

I mean, Red raises his arm in triumph, but the camera swings forward and fades to black. Anyone know the "truth" behind it.

I read the book, but I don't recall it mentioning that last particular race.
(Could be just me memory)

This loose ending, while artistic, is too ambiguous for my taste.

Yes, he won. The horse that finished second was his stablemate, Kayak.

There has always been debate about whether Kayak could have won had he been in an all-out drive, but he was ridden out to the wire. There was nothing wrong with that since they were part of the same betting entry (if you bet No. 1, you got both Seabiscuit and Kayak and it didn't matter which one won). In any event, Seabiscuit ran fast enough to set a track record.

Here's the video if you want to see the race:

Very cool

I liked the way that Red's friend kept back on his mount so that Seabiscuit could catch up early in the race. That gave Biscuit confidence to go on and win.
