David McCullough

is it just me or did David McCullough put a human face on the struggles of the early 20th century. Seriously he helped to drive the idea home. When I hear his voice, its as if I feel like this is happening to me. He uses second person point of view as a way to personalize what he is saying. No longer is history a thing that happened a long time ago to people I never knew, but now it happens to me.

No, you have put it very nicely.
He narrated Ken Burn's "Civil War" and it just would not have been the same without him.

He is superb.

When he narrates in second person, then gives the persons name that is being quoted, in the PBS series, American Experiance, not sure if he gets the credit for that or the producers of the shows, either way, it is very effective.

He has the greatest voice

I love his voice. He was a big part of what made The Civil War such a great doc. But I found it strange every time his narration started in this movie - like I was suddenly watching a Ken Burns film.
