Do these ppl know nething about NZ??

New Zealand? I watched only about 5mins of this movie and decided it was crap because, the ppl spoke with Australian accents and a colourful bird flew across screen. My advice 4 the ppl making the movie, look up NZ in your encyclopedia not australia!

yeah i watched this ages ago on sky tv (that's cable tv in nz for you yanks) and i was so annoyed at the lack of research nick did for this tv movie. look, we're aware that nz is just a tiny dot on the map compared to the US, but for your information, kiwis (as in the bird) do not run around randomly, especially not in the open grass and especially not at night, nor would it be likely to see one as they're experiencing dwindling numbers. equally, you'd never see a tuatara lizard just lying about, and not all of us are maori, let alone maoris with australian accents. oh well, we only make the best movies there are... heavenly creatures, whale rider, LOR, king kong... where would hollywood be without new zealand?

actually kiwis do run around at night - they're nocturnal.

Before I start: Yes, I am a Kiwi, and a proud Kiwi at that. And yes, some things that you guys outline do annoy me. Once I saw a cartoon where one of the characters was a Kiwi (bird) and it had a very STRONG Aussie accent. I annoyed people for about a week afterward. I haven't seen the movie, I'm trying to find out about it. And now I've seen all your comments about how "crappy" it is.

But you've got to try to try and see it from their point of view. You compare a Kiwi accent to an American one and it does sound faintly Aussie. Perhaps not as strong as they have it on the movie, but you can kinda understand it. Hey, on the Simpsons when they went to Australia the Aussies spoke in Pommie accents.
It's like if we put on an American accent-- they aren't all loud and twangy, but that is how most people impersonate them.

And what type of 'colourful bird' was it? Our birds are not all green and brown. Have you seen a pukeko, kea, or even a finch? A pukeko is bright, it's red, black, green, blue and white. A kea has a blob of orange under its wing. A finch can have spots of bright green and yellow.
Also Kingfishers are black white green and blue.
And mallards, which are red, fluorescent green, yellow...
If the bird was all the colours of the rainbow then I would agree.

I've just realised that this is getting kind of... I dunno, is preachy the word?... which is not what I am trying to do. I'm just trying to see it from another point of view.

stop exaggerating and trying to defend them:

pukeko are exactly 'bright' and they are not green. new zealand kingfishers are also not green (although they are beutiful looking birds) You only see the 'blob of orange' under the kea's wing when its flying and mallards are not all that you make them out to be...they certainly arn't 'fluorescent'. Don't get me wrong, i love our flora and fauna but i hate people who exaggerate.

reply

The mallard I saw had what I would call fluroescent green on it. Kingfishers can be green. Pukeko most certainly are green.

Perhaps you read it in an exaggerated way, but that is certainly not what I meant.

You have to admit though, this show was pretty funny.
Culturaly ignorant, but pretty damn funny.

I swear I almost peed myself laughing when the race host called Whangarei "Wang Gary". And the fact that the little kiwi [birds] were running around in the daytime.

Oh boy.
Looking for a good laugh?
This is it.
