I'll tell you what REALLY pisses me off, and that is the fact that the DVD is *different* than the original pilot! The scene where Eric and Kim finally consummate is very, very different. The DVD version is chopped up, and is anything but romantic. The love scenes in this series were done with some of the most meticulous care I've ever seen for a t.v./cable production, and the DVD is just awful! In the scene where Eric and Kim are in the hotel for the first time, Eric slides down to orally stimulate Kim (I'm trying to say this in a way that is accurate, but won't get censored) and it is very erotic, exciting and REALLY culminates — not only the passion that these two have built up over so many [screen time] months — but it also is a real release for both character's stress, particularly Eric's (character). What is presented on the only DVD they released (of only the 90 minute pilot episode) is a hacked-up, chopped-up *mess*, and DAMN it makes me mad. Why would they do that?! It is so stupid, I simply cannot understand why they would edit that scene (and others). It makes no sense, they already have the "R" rating, why cut up the sex scenes? It ruined it for me, because I had seen it complete and it was wonderful, and then they chop it up, and don't even do a good job. It is as if they were running out of room on the DVD so some idiot middle-management-type tells some t.v. hack editor to cut out "the juicy bits", as if we are ignorant little children who won't notice, or maybe we will but what can we do?
Showtime is NOTORIOUS for doing this kind of nonsense. I don't know if anyone remembers the early days of Showtime, but they hacked up various "steamy" sex scenes in movies (Body Heat is one that specifically comes to mind). This though, is just unconscionable; it illustrates the fact that Showtime simply did not know what they had on their hands here. This was an excellent ADULT drama, and the sensuality and sex was portrayed — for the first time on television — realistically, or more appropriately as realistic as we would hope it could be. Showtime has insulted their audience and the series creators by egregiously defacing a great drama, for NO GOOD REASON at all. I am stunned and infuriated by the level of disrespect displayed with both the chopping up of the pilot, and the fact that the rest of the series has yet to be made available. You'll find plenty of their homosexual programming lovingly packaged in DVD packs, but I guess us plain ole' heterosexuals aren't worthy of even an un-raped version of the pilot.
I'll say it again, because it simply boggles the mind... they hacked up THEIR OWN pilot episode on DVD! *beep*
