Has Anone seen this remake?

Kurosawa's masterpiece of the post war Japan seems to be the ideal film NOT to remake, especially since it deals so much with the postwar era. Has anyone seen the remake? How is it? Does it compare? How about Too Much Sleep. How is that one?
