I loved the ending! SPOILERS

Yes, it was sacarine and "estrogen heaven" as the director called it, but I think as a viewer I needed that, having watched the sisters find peace with a lot of their other issues and heavy dramatics. If the movie had ended with the non-confrontation of their father, and Joanie leaving their lives again, I'd have been pretty unsatisfied. So, it was really pleasing to see the movie end on a happy note. Sometimes you really do need a cutesy, happy ending to take a sigh and go 'that was worth the crap they had to go through'. BUT, not so predictable as a rom-com, so...it still left a little surprise. And then on top of the scene you have the song the 3 sing, which is beautiful and really wraps everything up so well. Really smart way to end this kind of heavy film IMO; as opposed to something interpretational or abrupt or unfulfilling.

that's so funny...me too!

I actually saw this before Hard Candy, and she looks just as young in that. Yea, I thought she was about 13 at first, and was like, 'does no one see this kid smoking'...but 16's a bit more understandable (although, that whole boyfriend with his own place was like whoa). I loved Theresa bringing that up and Agnes reminding her of how old she was when she met her ex Donny. Actually that whole scene where the 2 meet Joanie was really sweet and funny...Carmel and Camile

i liked the movie - but it was sooo hard to hear and no subtitles :(

was ellen page's character the result of the rape/molestation of one of the 3 daughters?

also in regards to the smoking - it always bugged me watching "Stand by me" when I was a kid and saw the boys all smoking. I wondered if Hollywood has some sort of fake cigarettes or something that you can light and burn and produce smoke but are not real... ?

thanks for the explanation. i actually had to watch it twice to follow it - maybe the sound on my disk was messed up. i was thinking it was agnes' sister that was Joanie's mother... now it makes sense - duh. :) i'll have to watch it one more time to truly get the feeling of the movie

Wow. I totally missed the incest thing. That's intense. But um, wouldn't the chances of the baby coming out 100% fine, with no defects of any sort be pretty slim? That's probably not too realistic, I wouldn't think.

And yes, it is definitely hard to hear in some parts. I had to watch it more than once to get everything (and apparently I still didn't).

actually imbreeding just increases the chances of birth defects - it does not guarentee that the baby WILL have them.

A late reply....

Yes, there are "fake" cigarettes. Some use them, some don't and since this is a Canadian film I don't know what their laws are. I believe if you search the internet you could find non-tobacco cigarettes.
