IT WASNT BAD.

I actually liked this movie.. it wasn't that bad.. I don't know why people hate it.. I have seen plenty of horrible movies, and I just find this to be okay. It caught my attention and I was able to understand it.

I agree with you, i am one for real life, in your face movies, about real people, real familys, not all the make beleif, in a perfect world happy home movies. people need to see that this stuff happens. But i do have a couple criticisms.

OK, we know Barbie is caught having sex with John snr. but for some reason the director does not go into that, which would of been a nice twist to the plot, to thicken it that much more. but overall is was a decent movie, even had me in stitches a couple of times because as a kid i had issues, and this movie addressed them as best it could.. by the way JENA MALONE is a babe xox, you should go see her in LIFE AS A HOUSE!!

p.s i enjoy movies like bully ( brad renfro. (john jnr.) was in that one, as well as the client, with tommy lee and susan sarandon,)
thirteen is good, freeway, all those real life dysfunctional family movies actually have an impact, and their should be more of them!!

thank you, p.s cant wait to see HARD CANDY!

it's one of my favorite movies. i find it a little strange, and it seems soo crappy and low budget, that i find it to be very creative and artistic. the family seems so real, and the acting fits the characters perfectly. it has the right amount of humor and drama.

YOU DONT LOVE DADDY DO YA JAY?

I doubt that you're still reading this considering that it's been some months (almost a year) that you posted this, however, I would like to agree with you. I can't understand why people hate it so much either. I must admit while I watched it I couldn't help but to sigh at all of the dark comedy. Then I realized that that's exactly what it is. COMEDY. I was kind of disheartened when Rena lost her baby and then walked out of prison laughing just a hour or so later. I also grimaced when Barbie slung her arm around her mother's shoulder just after sleeping with her husband. By the end though, I understood exactly what this meant. All of it. Under the layers of eery comedy there was purpose. I would have enjoyed seeing more depth on the whole Barbie situation but I also cringe every time I think of someone speaking on how "unreal" it is. Obviously these people have problems. All of them. Rena speaks of suicide in an off-handed manner while the director obviously tries to make humor out of her suicide attempt as she tries slitting her wrist with a spork. Barbie is near to being a sociopath and remains emotionally detached throughout half of the movie. Their mother is not much better considering that she obviously has a pattern of unstable relationships and only half-heartedly protects her children (EX: allowing her husband to smack around Rena and yet curling up next to her in bed. Getting high with her daughter. All of thee above...). Then there's Jay. Jay, who's obviously a sexuality-confused individual. Apparently, they all have problems and it's kind of surreal considering that Rena had an abortion and slit her wrists all in one day although we never see her go to the hospital. They all need therapy. This is exactly what tells us that all of the extra "problems" are just that and nothing more. Either way, the message stayed the same. That's what I enjoyed about it. I feel as if when you come into a movie expecting something you don't fully appreciate what you do get.

Finally saw it today after three years of waiting and didnd't think it was bad at all. The movie itself kind of reminded me of another favorite of mine, "American Beauty" in the sense of it took you inside the lives of a particular American family. You got to see what life was like for perhaps the people who live a few miles away from you or maybe even down the street. I liked it alot and thought Jena Malone played an excellent role.

I can't believe people take those expiration dates so seriously
