Why I think this film was made

The main reason why I think this movie was made is so there would be one that would end when Kevin's brother Buzz wasn't mad at him, since that is the case in the first two.

reply

I think it was just a quick cash-in

reply

All three of the sequels to the first film were cash-ins, but HM3 and HM4 were particularly blatant ones. HM4 is pretty low-budget cash-in, too.

reply

Try as I might, I just can't figure out what "HM" is supposed to stand for. In pokemon, HM3 is surf and HM4 is strength. Is your post like some kind of secret pokecode?

reply

Oh yeah, that was the whole point of the first two films. Buzz and Kevin being mad at each other. That's what the films were REALLY about.

reply

I don't know about you, but I feel as though Buzz and Kevin should have made peace at the end of the second one. It seemed as though at the end of both the first and the second one, Kevin forgave Buzz, but Buzz never forgave Kevin. Maybe Buzz was just meant to be a true jerk.

I do remember Buzz's speech at the present scene, but then at the very end he yells "Kevin, you spent 967 dollars on room service." I suppose Buzz did make peace with Kevin for a short moment, but then he was mad at him again.

reply

wasn't that his dad yelling? because Buzz got the receipt and I think he goes "daaaad!" and then you hear the dad yell for kevin.

reply

Oh yeah, maybe it was his dad. I do know that Buzz said "Oh daaaaad" when he sees the bill, but I at least thought it sounded more like Buzz yelling at Kevin. Maybe I should watch it again to see if it sounds more like the dad or Buzz. I would say it was definitely Buzz yelling "Kevin, what did you do to my room" at the end of the first one, because I know he did do a lot of damage to his room.

reply

I looked on the quotes page for Home Alone 2, and I guess it did say it was the dad who yelled, which makes the situation even worse. I say that because it doesn't seem like the dad should even care about a little thing like the room service bill, when your child was alone all that time. That's right, the second one should never have even ended like that.

There's no reason Buzz would be mad at him since it's not his credit card. Kevin was using his dad's credit card to charge for all the hotel bills.

reply

Also...

Peter: KEVIN, YOU SPENT $967 ON ROOM SERVICE?!?!?!?

reply

Yeah but I don't think they would make a whole other movie just so they can make up wtf

reply

I don't know why, but this movie was a waste of time watching, it's so cheesy and awful.

reply

Cash-in, nothing more: there was no "continuity" or "intention to resolve previous conflicts" whatsoever, otherwise characters like Marv would've been a faithful continuation instead of French Stewart being annoying as usual along with the rest of the cast.

Oh, and they wanted to try to launch a TV series with this, which made it even more of a cash-in.

reply

Daniel Stern as Marv works better because he has curly hair, which was alright to have in the early 90's. French Stewart does have experience as an actor, yet he's not the right fit for Marv. Although his callback to the older films about getting in the van was interesting to say the least. Even him driving around in a full-size van is also a callback to the first movie.

Marv: Everybody get in the van!

reply

I completely agree with you toolsquatch. You got that right about Home Alone 4 being just a cash-in. This WAS a cash-in and a damn cheap-assed one at that. An insult to the series and it's fans this one was!

I don't apologize. I'm sorry, but that's how I am. - Homer Simpson

reply

The other sequels were crash-grabs as well, but this one was a to obvious attempt of cash-grab. They wanted some quick easy money and that's why it was made.

reply

Home Alone 3 was watchable even though it had no connection whatsoever.

Alex: YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET ME UP THERE YOU DUMB BREAKING LOUSY KNUCKLEHEAD!

reply

I can't believe there was a fourth one. I never even saw the third one because I heard it didn't relate to the original series. (It would've been fun to see one of Kevin's cousins the star of the third movie.) But this one sounds like it's trying to follow Kevin's story and no. I hate recasts unless the character is meant to have aged significantly, they usually never go well.

{Look at me and mah clevah nicksies.}

reply

Kieran Culkin was going to be Fuller in HA3, but it was axed because he felt he wouldn't live up to his brother's performance.

reply

I agree with the original poster. In addition, I truly believe that each sequel was made with love by people who truly cared about producing quality art.

I think the film would have been better off with an older Kevin but this time it is one of his kids getting left behind.

reply

A lot of people want to imagine Kevin as an adult. A father with kids perhaps?

reply

I don't even know who this movie is supposed to be aimed at. The first two movies came out when I was about 6. I watched both until I was around 10. They were fun and funny movies. Any kids that would want to watch this movie wouldn't get any nostalgia from it, and their parents wouldn't care at all.

This is a very sad and desperate attempt to make a nostalgic movie that nobody wants, or asked for.
