What was the funniest part?

I've never seen the movie and I'm dying to know where they take their shot at humor at. So could someone tell me what's the deal with this movie? Why is it so good?

reply

The humour in Freak Out is kinda a cross between 80s screwball, Airplane and South Park. It wears its heart on its sleeve, a lot of the jokes are spot on if you like horror there's a little more to enjoy but the comedy translates regardless. It's so darn fun it's hard not to like. Best advice: get the dvd and you'll see why.

reply

its good for the same reasons that red dwarf is so good: its cheap, its tacky, the acting is poor, but it oozes character and isnt trying to pretend to be what its not.

You silly sausage! what are you doing?!!

reply

Neerox is right although I haven't heard of red dwarf, this film is cheap but great. i disagree with the acting point tho. the main guy isn't too great but onkey is really funny - me and my brother want his shirts.

reply

I think most of the acting is pretty crap, to be honest, but it's all the funnier for it. Criticising this film for having bad acting would be like criticising Ghostbusters for having ghosts in it. It's a pillar upon which the main bulk of the film rests.

reply

The dialog is hilarious and like I say onkey is lol funny.

reply

He does get nearly all the best lines.

reply

Onkey is almost cooler and funnier than that Toadie character in Aussie soap Neighbours!

reply

Err onkey is way better than toady, onkey is funnier and way better looking. (they do hav the same taste in clothes tho! :-P)

reply

Like Ed, in SOTD, Onkey gets all the best lines. The overacting and the dialogue combine somehow, and the result is incredibly funny.

I guessed you hadn't seen the film to ask a question like that.

If there was a funny part buried somewhere amongst the 90 odd minutes of drivel this film amounted to I must have missed it.

You might like it if you find a bunch of schoolkids throwing Ham sandwiches at a non-actor funny.
This film didn't make me laugh, it just made me angry.

reply

The only reason u won't find this film funny is if u are VIRGIN on the ridiculous.

To properly answer the poster's question; I'd say the hilarious 1st montage and the talk after the party about Frankensten are gems. If u like anarchic low budget movies like Orgazmo, Bad Taste or Clerks you'll love this.. if u take things way too seriously and have a stick up your butt you won't.

reply

I tend to prefer comedy that's a tad more sophisticated than "Bum feeler" or some nutsack running around wearing a giant poorly sculpted Larry Hagman head.

Judging by the content of some of your posts though, I can see why YOU would find it funny.

VIRGIN instead of VERGING, comedy gold.

Makers of Freak Out take note, AlabamasBra is obviously angling for a writing job on Freak Out 2.

reply

I don't think it was a joke; from your post it's beginning to look like fact.

reply

Im glad too see not everyone thinks this film is awesome, Novichok can you believe this film gets all that buzz?
ok I know we have a few ermm toady fans liking it but to me its just so lame.

reply

It's more than just lame, sitting through it is an exercise in hyper-tedium that only the threat of imminent execution could make me repeat.

Its cringeworthy, mind-numbing sheer awfulness is something that could only be enjoyed by those with a single figure IQ or indeed, Neighbours fans, which IMO is probably one and the same thing.

Let's drop the D from Donkey and call him Onkey, that should have them in stitches.

P.S. for the benefit of the thicker messageboard users, the sentence immediately preceding this one contains more than a hint of sarcasm.

reply

so this movie doesnt deserve all the hype and good reviews this movie is getting????

reply

Certainly not! its a cheap camcorder movie!

reply

Raderpunk! Take a look at these;

'THIS FILM'S A HOOT!' - Quint, Ain't It Cool News

joblo and bloody disgusting are not amateurish websites. They are very well respected in the industry. Some of there quotes can now be seen on some major studio film posters.

I don't understand your mission of trying to spread a bad vibe about Freak Out. Thats cool if it didn't push your button but it did for a lot of people. So move on. These guys have done something which most people can never do. They've made a movie with no help or money.

Your starting to sound bitter dude. For someone who has no time for this film you have spent a lot of time on this imdb page.

reply

IMO this film deserves far more bad press than it has had so far, I'm just providing a bit of balance.

Raderpunk asked a question, I answered it.

I'm not about to be dictated to by some nobody on a messageboard so i'll move on when I'm good and ready.

Suffice to say if I spend good money on something that turns out to be garbage then I have a right to advise others against making the same mistake I did.

reply

You poor, awkward little man (man in the loosest sense of course). What exactly are you trying to gain by coming on here and ranting about how awful someone else's achievements are? This film was fun from begining to end I thought and it seems that 95% of the people who saw it feel the same way. That says a lot I think. Not even big budget movies get as many good reviews AND SALES as this movie has. Did you know that it sold out on play.com and amazon in the first couple of days after it was released?

If you don't like it, then don't get involved. Simple. I don't appreciate people like you who seem to have a fundamental issue with other people's popularity and/or success, but then I am quite happy to have nothing to do with you... easy enough, as I doubt you ever risk showing your Quasimodo face in public anyway... I understand however that you desperately need the attention you get on here, but you must appreciate that it's no fun for everyone else when you're just an ignorant, boring little pleb.

Freak Out pisses all over you, even if it was a bad as you say it is.

All though I am sure some people will appreciate your contribution to this discussion Novichok, I must ask you how you can be so passionate about a film you hate?
I just dont see the point myself, find a film you like instead and rave about that, I think we all understand now that you dont like Freak Out.

reply

That's like saying if you don't like what I have to say about Freak Out why do you feel the need to comment on my posts.
With all due respect mate, I'll post on what I want to post on and if people don't like it then tough.
I wonder what you've been raving about on Imdb recently?

reply

Touche. Perhaps my comment was not thought through well enough. What I was trying to allude (sp) to is that I dont post much on IMDB, only about the things I like. I dont want to sound like I am having a pop, just interested in why you would bother to bash a movie?

Check out Freakout on IMDB

This is BRILLIANT!!

Everyone - I'm WITH NOVICHOK. He says Freak Out is the GREATEST and MOST BEST FILM he's ever seen!!! I agree with him!!! It had me choking on my cheapo microwave popcorn. The extras rule!

Novichok - seeing as we both LOVE Freak Out, is there any chance you happen to single? Both LOVING the same movie is a GREAT way to start a relationship - let me know ASAP!

The fact that the first thing raderpunk69 wrote was “I've never seen the movie…” should be your first clue.

I picture you living alone watching re-runs of Bewitched. How sad. I almost cried for you… almost.

ok I know we have a few ermm toady fans liking it but to me its just so lame.

“I’m glad to see” not “I’m glad TOOO see”. Dumb ass. It’s also extremely obvious that Syboat is an anagram of NOVICHOK give or take a few letters, or perhaps an inbred family member. Sick.

Instead of commenting on this post I thought it wise just to re-write it so you get a clearer understanding. This is how it should read:

“I’m more than just lame, listening to me is an exercise in hyper-tedium that only the threat of imminent execution could make you repeat.

I’m cringeworthy, mind-numbing, sheerly awful and something that could only be enjoyed by those with a single figure IQ or indeed, Neighbours fans, which IMO is probably pushing it.”

No one really cares about your opinion. You’re providing a bit of balance? That’s just a load of rubbish to try and defend your actions. Lame.

You answered his question? You snubbed his question more like.
NOVICHOK said:

Some nobody on a messageboard? You have less than 10 posts on IMDb in total! Newb!
NOVICHOK said:

You have to advise people online about your stupid mistakes because you have no real friends. Loser. I have a right to advise others not to make the mistake of listening to you. Ever.

NOVICHOK’s Posts started to be deleted after this, and perhaps his account banned soon for braking the term and conditions of IMDb.com.

OWNED!

mezmaghost
I'd guessed he hadn't seen the film just from reading the title of the thread, not his actual post, pea-brain.

You have the gall to call Syboat a dumbass for what is probably a typo and then immediately display your ignorance of the meaning of the word ANAGRAM, priceless.

What made you think that altering one of my previous posts was wise?
You've just replaced something fairly witty with the banal.

If you don't care about my opinion, why act as if you do?

I answered Raderpunk's question, just because you didn't like my answer does'nt make it any less valid.

When calling someone a "Newb" at least check to see that he/she has'nt been registered on IMDb for the last 4 years, which incidently is 2 years longer than you have, newb.
BTW It's "NOBODY", not "NOBOBY", DUMBASS, LOL, two can play at this game.

As you can see I'm still here and what's more I don't have to type owned in caps at the end of my post, which IMO just smacks of desperation on your part.

With a post as easy to pick apart as yours, I can't see you owning anything, least of all me.

reply

LOL I think I touched a nerve.

reply

I notice you don't disagree with what I've posted in reply to your rather unjustified hostility.

I think my response was quite measured and composed in comparison to your frantic ravings.
It was just a comprehensive dismantling of the points you made, nothing more nothing less.

reply

Yea its ok for mezmaghost to be hostile and yet we get our posts removed, something stinks around here.

I went to one of the uni screenings at Southampton two years ago and saw a different version of Freak Out and loved it! I had been avidly waiting the release of it and have not been disappointed in the slightest.

You ask why is it so good? Here are my views...

-The endless funny homage's to the best and greatest horror films made!
-Onkey's shirts and his apparent bravery but when faced with a hockey masked maniac...is actually a coward!
-Merv's looser obsessive compulsive addiction to horror films!
-The great acting that makes you believe these guys could be buddies even through an episode with a camp, vegetarian serial killer!

The shower scene! The homage to queen's bohemian rhapsody! The play within the play (midsummer night's dream homage!) The lesbian/vampire bar!

This film is a great low budget horror triumph! and the DVD gives you more to love with a fantastic music video to the killer song Zaniac plus deleted scenes plus hidden extras....

reply

Thats exactly the type of answer I was looking for, thank you so much.

reply

NOVICHOK has his opinion, why waste your time moaning at him

reply

Freak Out is a highly enjoyable movie and I for one loved it (as well as all those people with me watching it!). Grab some pizza, get your mates round, grab a beer and enjoy.... I honestly can't see how this movie could make anyone angry!!!????? Once again congrats to all the cast and crew!

reply

Quite happy to help - self confessed movie freak here! :-)

reply

It's one thing to not like a movie--but it's another thing to say that people who like so-called movie must be stupid. That's just lame.
