Was this the peak beginning or end of the prequel craze?

Only a few years after the Star Wars prequels we were served this film. Will humans never learn from their past mistakes?
Was this film positioned as the end of the prequel as we know it or was it the pinnacle peak of prequels that went on to dictate everything that would we'd see for years to come.

When someone in Hollywood thinks about making a prequel, let's say for example like "Prometheus", do the execs first say, "Hey, let's look at Dumb and Dumberer" for inspiration." I imagine there is a platinum case held in a secure vault that holds an early script for "Dumb and Dumberer" that Hollywood bigwigs go to when they think about doing any prequel. This film set the benchmark for prequels for now until the end of time.
