Soundtrack

Anyone know where I can find a list of the whole soundtrack. I thought the choice of music was great, although sometimes obtrusive.

reply

I've looked and looked but I can't find it either. Are they not releasing a cd? I would think that if they were it would coincide with the release of the film...?

reply

According to the DVD commentary... no soundtrack. Even Colin Quinn was asking about that....

Did you find this soundtrack anywhere?

Does anyone know the name of the song that plays during the credits?

reply

I was also struck by that last song, and watched the credits and noted that the singer was Susanna McCorkle, a jazz singer who I never heard of, but who died an untimely death not long ago.

In any event, I have bought one of her cds since then, but it didn't contain that song at the end of the movie, which was clearly Brazilian influenced. She has a couple of cd's of Brazilian music out there, but so far I have not discovered the name of the song, or the cd it is on.

I'd love it if someone would post the answer to that question!

reply

perlstein... the answer to your question is (drum rollll) Susannah McCorkle - Agua De Marco (The Waters Of March)... not sure which album but that is the song. Enjoy.

I've been looking for the soundtrack for a different reason. there was a song that played near the end (right before the steely dan song). i think that it might have been the Band? can anybody help me out?

reply

rmassie: I believe the Band's version of "When I Paint my Masterpiece" is on the soundtrack.

reply

It's on her "Most Requested Songs" album. A lovely Jobim tune!

reply

I just found out the Steely Dan track at the end. It's called Deacon Blue.

reply

It took some research but here's the info
"Waters of March" (Aguas de Marco) written by Antonio Carlos Jobim
This particular verson is performed by Susannah McCorkle and is on her album
"From Bessie to Brazil" which can be found on amazon.com
I'm glad I'm not the only one who watched the end credits 4 times just to hear that song.

I can't seem to find anything about the soundtrack either.
Besides Deacon Blues by Steely Dan, I remember hearing Led Brers in A Minor by Allman Bros, and Masterpiece covered by the Band. Many of the tracks had John Medeski's name on them (Mostly known from trio Medeski Martin & Wood).
All the songs are listed on the DVD credits, and I wish I jotted them down before I returned it to the store!

Hey all!

Joining the conversation a bit late, I apologize. Anyway, I'm virtually finished compiling all the songs for the soundtrack ... but I can't find "Southern Rocker" by Craig Riley/Sound Ideas, "Nightwatch" by jessica williams or "Pryor Reprise" by Joe Henry (although I found "Richard Pryor Addresses a Tearful Nation").

Any suggestions for finding the missing pieces?

Wes

"Nightwatch" is on an a brilliant album by the Jessica Williams Trio - "Inventions", released in 1995, on the Jazz Focus label. You should be able to find it on Amazon.

"Pryor Reprise" is actually a hidden/bonus track on Joe Henry's "Scar" album (which has "...Tearful Nation). It's placed about 6 minutes after the cd's last listed track. It's essentially an Ornette Coleman improvisation w/ Henry supporting.

The track "Southern Rocker" is actually just a piece of production/stock music used as incidental music during Orny's Letterman performance.

reply

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the info. I found "Nightwatch" on Jessica's CDs ... but I was looking on all the sites to be able to just purchase the one song for my "Comedian" compilation. Same with "Pryor Reprise" and "Southern Rocker."

Since "Southern Rocker" is stock music, do you know if it can be purchased and/or downloaded anywhere?

I've come this far in compiling my collection, I'd hate to stop short of one or two songs. =)

reply

I think on "Nightwatch" and "Pryor Reprise" you'll probably have to get the cds, I don't think you'll have any luck finding the tracks individually. Both albums are great, by the way. With "Southern Rocker", you're not missing anything on that one. It's also not comercially available.

reply

Yeah, you're probably right. I've got about three hours worth of music from the film which should keep me busy ... wanting those last remaining pieces is just me being anal. Haha. Thanks again. Oh hey, did you compile a soundtrack for yourself?

reply

I concur; the soundtrack was quite well done. The tune I'm looking for help with, though, is the one that plays during the main menu of the DVD that begins with the baritone sax solo. I don't remember it having a spot in the film soundtrack, so perhaps those who don't own the DVD wouldn't know the tune to which I'm referring.

reply

That's "Moanin'" by Charles Mingus. It's on his "Blues & Roots" lp.
It's in the movie under Orny's ride to and prep for his Letterman appearance.
