So, each episode of this is better than both the sequels combined

WTF were they thinking?

reply

Well I don't think so at all. These animated shorts didn't really do it for me. Movies 2 and 3 obviously weren't as good as 1, but I'd still rather watch those.

The Animatrix was definitely better than The Matrix 3. In many ways, even alot deeper than Matrix 2 which was just made as a reason to capitalize on the original movie and show some cool effects and action. At least The Animatrix added to the lore of The Matrix concept by establishing prequels and tie-ins. The movie sequels were just fluff and style. Pretty to look at but nothing to think about.

I'd rather watch The Animatrix fifty times than sit through The Matrix 3 again which was pretty anti-climactic and pointless. That battle at Zion was a great scene though but the rest stunk.

Uh...what? Did you not watch the sequels or did you just watch them with the volume turned off? The sequels fleshed out the entire Matrix Universe 100 times better than the first film did. Without the sequels most of the themes from the first movie would never make sense.

The sequels show you:

1.) Who Neo really is.
2.) Where the Rebels come from.
3.) The structure of the Rebellion.
4.) Who made the Prophecy.
5.) Why Neo can do the things he did.
6.) The raison d'etre of the Machines.
7.) Who created the Matrix.
8.) Why the Oracle knows what she knows.

etc. etc. etc.

I can't for the life of me get why fans of the first film disparage the sequels. Without the sequels Neo's powers, the Oracle's prophecies, etc are just unexplained magic.

The ending of the story was great. Why? Because it was a realistic and thoughtful ending instead of the giant, *beep* of guns and martial arts you children seem to want.

The Wackowskis realized that having the humans exterminate the machines in one all out war was not only impractical but undesirable. The Earth is basically uninhabitable. The Humans NEED the Machines to survive.

In the end the Matrix movies actually were a more mature story than 99% of the sci fi films out there because it resisted the temptation of taking the simplistic, childish route of Humans are Good, Machines are Evil. The Machines aren't evil. The only way for survival was the alliance between Machine and Human.

you must be drunk or something.

All that stuff was learned in the Matrix Reloaded,
The matrix Revolutions didn't answer crap. Nothing, it was a mess and a whole lot of nothing. That movie was pointless. The franchise could have ended in Reloaded if they made Neo reach the machine city,
The only important thing about Revolutions is Neo talking to the Machine God and fighting Smith, Nothing else in that movie matters. Not even the Zion war, that was pointless too.

I do LOVE Reloaded, I will clarify that, but Revolutions is one of the worst most disappointed times I have ever been at a movie theater. The movie was so bad it almost brought me to tears lol.

I'll look down, and whisper no

Whole heartedly agree. The Animatrix surpasses both sequels.

Straightedge means I'm better than you.

Agreed. The Animatrix was pretty spectacular, but the sequels were so bad that they left me with a bad taste for the entire franchise. Still, the Matrix and Animatrix are classics (the Matrix more so, but the Animatrix is an achievement in both animation and storytelling). I just wish the drivel that followed never existed.

Yep, just saw this for the first time and it's good like The Matrix. I feel the sequels were awful and a rare case where a sequel can actually ruin the original. It's hard to go back to the first knowing how bad the sequels were, but these short animations reminded me of how good it used to be. Wachowski's dropped the ball big time...

Yeah, the Animatrix is so good. I think it was even better than the original somehow due to its variations, concise (see how quickly it affected our emotion in very short time range still clearly explain what it needs) and multi-perspective story-telling... but again I wonder if it wasn't the Matrix (movie) was made and implant the concept in my mind, then would the Animatrix has such big impact on me... not so sure about that. But I definitely feel it surpasses those 2 movie sequels.
