i think since neo already knew and was unplugged. the athlete was unaware of the matrix and pushed himself so hard that it was beyond human capability or something like that. i think the idea of that story was really good, thats my favorite stand alone story of the animatrix excluding the 2 parter second renaissance.

Yeah, the athlete didn't know anything about The Matrix but he wanted to be free. I actually liked World Record a lot, I don't know why it gets so much flack. Matriculated was the weirdest one, I still don't really understand that one. All of the others were good though, Osiris was a bit too short, I was hoping that would be much longer than it was.

The final flight of Osiris is actually a bit longer than it should (compare to the rest in Animatrix collections IMO). If you want it being made longer then it would be the Matrix movie (1st movie) and then we no longer want another Matrix movie, we already has one.
