Was Michelle's mom really that naive about Michelle's sex life? It was implied she thought Michelle would lose her virginity on her wedding night.

Michelle has a line about how her parents still see her as an "good little band girl"

. The audience and Jim also thought so as well in the first American Pie, when she explained to Jim what she did with her flute, he spit out his drink. My then-girlfriend and I were also blown away. I would have expected that from Nadia or Jessica.

Michelle's mom was such a prudish *beep* I was so disappointed when Jim's dad swooped in right before Michelle's dad told her Michelle's clearly not a virgin.
I also wish Stifler had just let her eat the dog *beep* although if she had, he never would've gotten the ring back.

The way the mom says "thank you" to jim's dad tells me that she knows her daughter isn't a little girl anymore but she wants to hold on to that dream.

^THIS^ & from the mom's actions throughout, I'll bet she *STILL* held that beliefe even when she was holding little Evan b/t WEDDING & REUNION

I think it really was only for the joke... like many things in those movies that don't actually hold any logic other than the lulz. Just enjoy.
