Israeli segment : a second too soon?

Hello,

I found the israeli part a bit weird (the reporter summing up all those 11 september events) but it is a masterpiece in choreography. How many times they have to do that to make it right?

Just a tiny question : in the very first second the israeli bomb guy/soldier/police officer stands there looking in front of him with the megaphone in his hand. Then suddenly jumps up, starts shouting, and goes closer to the bomb.
That very first second, it's like you can see him waiting for the cue to start everything.

Am i seeing things? Or should they have cut that out? Or is it intentional?

i just finished wathcing this film and i know exactly what you are saying. I believe that the actor was just waiting for a cue in my opinion. if you want to really ask then talk to the filmmakers...jks. but the ISRAEL segment (this segment) is one that i actually liked...very good choreography and very well acted too, i was sucked into the chaos and to the story. long un-cut takes are my favorite, so that segment is a thumbs up.

Finally someone who comment on this as well! What does jks stand for?

Of course it is a good scene, it was only after a while that I asked myself, is this all done in ONE take??

Have you ever seen the Japanese thriller Cure by Kurosawa? It is a very perplexing thriller, and it has a lot of scenes shot in one take. It's a shame some people don't notice how hard that is for the actors.

reply

jks mean jokes or just kidding. yeah im a student filmmaker myself and i love it when actors can just move about and act in a scene with no cuts whatsoever. I find that it is a challenge for both the director and actors, but overtime, it all works out because it makes the scene that much more real. of course scenes like that need to be rehearsed but when it's well acted and directed...is all worth it.

When i make my films i also try to have a couple of scenes with no cuts to them...some work, some doen't....but at least im getting some practice :)

no...i havent seen Kurosawa's Cure...but now u made me interested in it...ive seen long uncut scenes from Boogie Nights and Magnolia. Elephant has some good uncut scenes too.

If you want to see a good movie with a really long scene, watch Children of Men.. the climax of the movie was done in 1 take, I think it's around 6 minutes uncut.. the timing on that scene was perfect, and it's a very powerful scene.
another long take I can think of is in Pulp Fiction, but it's just two guys talking and talking through an apartment complex to find the right apartment, cool though

"Robe" by Hitchcock is filmed as once continued scene. When a reel of film was about at the end, the camera would focus on something like the back of a man's suit and then continue. It's a great movie, inspired by Leopold and Loeb.

I would think that the editor could edit out the pause?
