Tanovic's Segment

This one left me a bit baffled, it surprises me that no topic was made about this one, but anyways, i think my confusion comes from the fact that i know very little about the Yugoslav Wars and so i wanted to ask some questions.

Why were the women protesting? and what significance does this film have?

From the little i could assume i thought that injustice is the same all over the world, for whatever reason the women were protesting, it was in essence the same reason to protest against the 9/11 attacks.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Feliciano - I'll try and give you an answer.

The women are from Srebrenica and Srebrenica is a town in Eastern Bosnia where on July 11th 1995 Serb (Orthodox Christian) military massacred 8000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys and the women are making a demonstration in their memory. Also, you will notice the women are refugees and do not live in their own homes.

The significance of the film is ambguous but I'm guessing that while the film acknowledges the American tragedy (the main woman character says she is protesting on behalf of America as well as her own situation) it is trying to say that there are other tragedies in the world which are being ignored.

Hope that helped.
