'Full Metal Jacket' ridicule?

Is this title a wicked allusion to "Full Metal Jacket"? I have not seen the anime yet, but does it go further than that? Maybe even ridicules the IMDb top 250 Kubrick movie in some details?
Glad to know.
Thanks

Unless Full Metal Jacket had mechs(Arm Slaves in FMP) and high school comedy then they are nothing alike.

Dear Mr "Dang58",

You seem to know this anime quite well. In order to keep the further question out of "Start new topic" thing, could you advise here.

I've just bought "Full Metal Panic!" DVD which is called "Mission 002" and contains episodes from 6 to 10. It is the only DVD I could find. Would you recommend to watch this series starting with the 6th episode? Will I get the idea who's who? Are the episodes closely connected? Or should I wait till I get "Mission 001" DVD?

Thanks a lot for a reply in advance

You will have a pretty good idea of who the characters are if you start from episode 6 but you may be lost because 6 is right in the middle of a story arc.

Late i know but the title is a play on full metal jacket(and so is full metal alchemist which worked with the main characters being part metal). The fumo fumo series alludes to the "this gun is mine.........." but overall theres not plot connections.

While it might aslo be a reference to full metal jacket, as far as I remember 'Full Metal' is a rough translation of a Japanese expression that means something along the lines of stoic, or stubborn. In FMA, the name 'Full Metal Alchemist' is a pun, referring to both Ed's bionic bits and his nature. I would guess that it's a similar idea here, referring to the giant robots and Sousuke's personality.

Aside from Vic Mignogna voicing A Character who is Blond , German , foulmouthed , affiliated with The Military & works with metal , nope , nothing at all.
