English Vs Japanese

Which one do you prefer.

I prefer the English as Laura Bailey does a fantastic job as Tohru and Yuki in Japanese sounds too much like a girl, when I first saw the anime which was in Japanese I thought Yuki was a girl in boy's clothing.

reply

The whole joke with Yuki in parts is that he DOES look like a girl :D

I prefer the Japanese anyway. I tried the English and it just didn't sound right, and I hadn't watched the Japanese beforehand. XD Then again, I'd read the manga beforehand. Yuki's voice sounded too deep in the English, and I tried the Japanese hoping for a lighter voice and TADA I got one! ^_^

Japanese definitely. That English dub makes me want to cringe. What the hell is wrong with Yuki's voice?! That stupid mysterious tone to it?! Arg, so bad...
And most of the girls just ended up with that Valley Girl way of speaking, and I personally feel like punching out anyone who talks like that. So, Japanese all the way.

Don't worry. You might actually do some good before you die.

ok so i haven't actually seen the dub of this but what i don't get with people is why some of them are just so damn adamant about watching anime in the original japanese. my reason for this is its a cartoon its one of the only forms of media that can be dubbed properly, live action tends to look terrible even with modern dubbing techniques. but with anime it can be dubbed properly and sometimes be even better as it can make the characters more relatable to you. the only types of anime that i feel are enhanced by be in the original japanese are ones dealing with older japanese culture such samurai's. they just sound so cool and you get allot more emotion out of the japanese voices when it comes to duels, battle cries and issues of honour etc.

i don't mind either one, and you can't really be picky when you're trying to find random episodes everywhere, but furuba is one of the only ones i actually prefer in english. (though this is probably because i watched it in english before japenese) i didn't really think yuki's voice was too deep. it was actually close to the voice i had thought he'd have. and i really like shigure's voice. kyo's took a while to get used to, but i don't mind it. i just don't like the japenese as much because i don't really like yuki being played by a girl. i don't know, he just doen't sound right.

Japanese definitely. The dub just sounds too American.

reply

I prefer Japanese, 'cause it better to watch the series in it's own language ^^
Besides, when they dubbed, they voice actors don't convence me, they sound clearly like they are reading from some paper. and There is almost no expression in the voice. The japanese version, is original and besides the ones who make the voices are professionals ^^ In english dubs, they only get young and unexperience people to do the voice. I think it will be good english dub if some good voice actors do it.

But I still prefer Japanese, 'cause after all, All series that are original are the best ^^ Same in movies

Give me an Fing break, these aren't young and inexperienced (use gooder english) actors these are professionals who learn the craft. If they were they would be doing Dreamworks movies not ADR dubbing.

Totaly go for the English, it's way better.

I watched this in japanese with subs and i couldn't get through the first episode. Their voices made me want to kill someone!! it was incredibly annoying.
I actually enjoy the english dub voices, for the most part.
at least with the english dub, i've managed to watch half the series.

Reasons why I like English version better

1. I dont understand Japenese.

That's how I feel! I mean, I enjoy watching the Japanese, but you have to work too hard to understand it.

reply

Since I originally watched the show in English, I guess it's kind of hard for me to like Japanese as much. I preferred the English voices. I mean there are certain Japanese subs I love to watch, but I couldn't get past the 5th episode in Japanese (the voices were too different from their character IMO).

I dislike ppl who assume that ALL English dubs are bad because they saw a few bad ones. Funimation is one of the best licensing companies that dub exceptionally well.

Laura Bailey did an EXCELLENT job voicing Honda.

I like the English dub. I've got no problem with foreign movies, mind you. It's just that with anime, the story feels like it flows better when you don't have to read the bottom of the screen. :P

reply

Let's see, I can't stand english people trying to attempt Japanese dialog, but I can't stand the Japanese language either. I'm gonna have to go with english since I don't have to read anything. Plus, I love Laura Bailey.

reply

I like the english one best. I love anime series in japanese, but i REALLLY,REALLY DISLIKE Yuki's japanese voice actor, or actress lol -______- no no NO! i'm sorry but i think he sounds like a girl and i'd rather the english voice. it makes him look SEXY :D lol XD

I'm getting really tired of people who think (ANY) English dubs suck.

You know what? Why don't you stop speaking the effing language then? Why don't YOU try to voice act!? The English cast of Fruits Baskets were excellent, better than any other dub of an anime I watched.

I bet if you didn't speak English but spoke and understood Japanese, you would say English is better because you wouldn't understand a word they're saying. Cause you know what? You don't understand a word the Japanese are saying, so they just sound good to you ANYTIME - don't get me wrong I DO watch Japanese dubs once in a while, but this does NOT make me a hypocrit-

I really find it funny to see some people saying that English dubs sound so unprofessional. Seriously, people- if you think YOU can do better then go ahead and do it. I'd like to see you get bashed for not sounding like what a spoiled immature princess would want. >_>

I had to get that out.

Actually - just to go over your ranting - some people actually can understand some of the Japanese spoken.

It depends on the dubbing. Sometimes I prefer the original dubbing but sometimes I like the English dubbing. Actually, I always prefer the original but I also love some of the English dubbing. Also.... seriously... have you heard of any Tagalog dubbing? Unless you've heard of those, then you have no idea how bad it can get!

Anyways, when it comes to Fruits Basket, I prefer the Japanese. Tohru suits her Japanese seiyuu's voice. She's meant to sound like that, at least I feel.

Plus, I LOVE Tomokazu Seki's voice. I have like various favourite seiyuus and Seki-san is one of them. He voices Kyo's. I love it. I love his voice a lot.
