Live Action Movie

Does anyone know if there are any cast members already for this?

I quite honestly am disappointed that they are making a live action movie...I'm willing to give the producer a chance but I would rather that they use all Asian actors or not make this movie at all (because, after all, it takes place in Japan AND the characters have Japanese names). I don't mean to sound so picky, but I wish that they would stay true to the story in some aspect, the culture and location one of them at least.

Does anyone have ANY new information on the cast or development at least?

While this is true, I do believe they look more Americanized than anything, so with that said here is my ideal cast that I've researched and found worthy of the roles:

Hatori: Milo Ventimiglia
Kisa: Ariel Winter
Hiro: Greyson Chance
Hana: Ellen Page
Uotani: Blake Lively
Shiguire: Jerry Trainor
Momiji: Trevor Gagnon
Kagura: Miranda cosgrove...maybe
Haru: David Henrie
Yuki: Cameron Bright
Kyo: Chord Overstreet
Tohru: Emily Browning or Lea Michelle

A variety of those actors I could see doing the roles well, but some of them I am, quite honestly, tired of seeing all together (in the movie business, anyway).

See, my fear is that they get actors from well-known television shows and such...again I am being a bit demanding, but I'm a huge fan of this and don't want to see a huge mess-up...maybe American actors won't make the punch. Fresh faces might be better for these roles. I really don't see anyone fitting for these roles.

I did, however, recently hear that they may not even continue on with this project, so hopefully that happens. I don't know about you (your list was very good, well done by the way) but I am tired of seeing mangas and animes ruined by live-action film adaptions.

Thanks:)...and yes, they did kinda make a mess out of Dragon Ball Z, yikes!

I can't see how they could do a live-action version of this, unless it was a series. It's just too long, so to make it into a film, they'd have to cut so much out for running time it probably wouldn't even make any sense. It'd just be crap, I hope they don't do it.

I find myself wanting them to continue with this project. Not so much because I want to see a live-action of Fruits Basket (because honestly, Hollywood has insofar disappointed me with their live-action movies) but because the movie may inspire the makers of the anime to continue it. I know they never finished the anime before because they had caught up to the manga, but now that the manga has been completed maybe they'll consider continuing the anime. I would like that very much. Although I was disappointed with the newer episodes of InuYasha, since it seemed that the creators just wanted to get it over with and skipped too much of the last chapters; hopefully that wouldn't happen to Fruits Basket because of the gap (if they so decide to finish it).

I do believe Jason Dolley would make for a good Kyo. He is a disney star right now, but I can totally see him getting out of that status.

Y u no write a better signature?

reply

I never would have thought of Jason Dolley, but I can kind of see that. That's a good idea, either that or Chord Overstreet :).

And not even one Asian in the cast...

figures...

I suggested some Asians. I'm Asian.. and as much as I fancy Caucasians, I also want to see Asians too. I fancy both on the same level. But since this is a Japanese story I suggested Asians - mostly Japanese - one Korean.

Can't think of a girl though... Satomi Ishihara is tooo gorgeous to play Tohru's simple charm. Ishihara could play either Rin (from the manga) or Saki Hanajima but they have to tone down Ishihara's prettiness a bit.

no offense to anyone and their hopes of course, but i personally pray that this movie is never made. i loved the anime/manga and it's fine the way it is in those mediums (though i still wish for a second season *has been waiting for 8 years now >_<*)

if for some reason they had to do it though, i think it would be better as maybe a television series made in japan because if they don't stay true to the whole story then what's the point? and it'd be nice to see an anime to movie transition that actually stayed true to their appearances/races >_<

I used to think anime characters looked like people - that was very many, many years ago. Obviously I don't now, so I don't see what ethnicity they are portraying whenever I watch an anime or read a manga. All I know is I'm watching a story about people. I normally base their ethnicity based on where the story originated and what the characters are presented as.

Saying that - live action... I would expect Toma Ikuta as Kyo. He is sexy and he suits the hair colour. Pretty much the colour he sports nowadays. Yuki would probably be Tatsuya Fujiwara. Plus, they are both very competent actors.

Kyo Sohma - Toma Ikuta
Yuki Sohma - Tatsuya Fujiwara or Takeru Sato

I would put Kang Dong-won in there somehow because I'm a big fan of his. Probably he could play Shigure. He's a very good actor (who can effectively play the protagonist and antagonist - Shigure is, afterall, a shady character in the manga) plus... it doesn't hurt that he's very easy on the eyes ^^

But so far, no live-action has been brought up.

Well, there are other live-actions that are fun besides this that hasn't yet been made. Watch those, the Japanese love making life-actions out of their manga (anime) and games.

Edit: Suggesting those actors... made me think. They're too old to play the parts in Fruits Basket now. Maybe back in their younger years maybe. I know this is generalizing, but most Asians look young for their age in the West. But to us Asians, we can tell if they are young or younger based on their looks. And the aforementioned actors don't look young to play those parts anymore.

But, Osric Chau would be perfect! He looks young enough to play any role from the story. Of course, I think he would rather star as Goku in Dragon Ball Z. I won't oppose ^^ He's also very cute and handsome :P

Also, I suggested Satomi Ishihara to play a part. But she's too gorgeous to play Tohru's simple cute charm. Maybe toned down she can play Saki Hanajima. Or dolled-up like Rin Sohma (from the manga).

Perhaps Shiori Kutsuna can play Tohru.

Not seen any Japanese live-actions huh? The Japanese love making live-actions out of their mangas. I've seen a couple already and they're real good.

Go see some. They are some tripe but there's bound to be one everywhere. Bloody Monday was a terrible live-action for example in my books.
