OK WHAT???? SPOILERS

Top film!! Havent been that on edge since i watched Mike and Heather running up those stairs in Blair Witch!
BUT....
Cant shake the feeling that the end didnt make sense cos they just couldnt tie it up well enough, so tried to be cool by leaving it all ambiguous. I was bricking it in the attic but it just wasnt coherent enough! The whole Vera revelation thing kinda spoiled it and seems just thrown in for scares. Blair Witch didnt tie up all the loose ends but atleast you felt clossure!
The twist in this is good but i need answers! or at least suggstions.
Did she get out of the attic? Why would they kill Johnny? Just for scares? Who could've killed Johnny? What the hell happened?

Regarding the Vera revelation: I do think the weird eye was thrown in for a cheap thrill, but her whole story explained why she knew what she knew, regardless of whether she really is psychic or not. As for your questions, here's my answers. Take them for what they are, simply my personal conclusions:

1) Of course she got out of the attic. She's a part of the cult. It was just a set-up to kill Johnny.
2 & 3) The simple reason they killed Johnny was because they were into human sacrifice.
4) Someone from the cult killed Johnny. Not sure if it was just a cultist, or Alan Tashi's ghost or what... but remember? Vera said "they take the eyes". But I thought I remembered the myth being that Alan Tashi carved the ear-to-ear smile in his victims... I could be wrong.
5) What the hell happened with what?

It's pretty tough to see, because the lights are out, but if you look closely enough you can see something big rush up behind Johnny with its hands stretched out. It looks larger than a human and has a large round head. The shape of it's head reminds me of the Halloween shaker that was left behind by Tashi back in the 1800's.Also, Johnny's mouth is nearly carved ear to ear. At one point Johnny is sitting on his bed and he's watching Rebecca sleep. He's listening to music with his earphones and then it sounds as if something comes slamming into his house or onto the roof. I guess it's the thing that gets him. I thought they did a fine job of wrapping it up. But I think they are giving you alot of room to form your own ideas.

How did Rebecca find out about a NJ cult while living in VA?
Was Rebecca truly there alone with Alan Tashi or were ther others in the house?
What exactly did kill Johnny?
Was Rebecca really a student at Rutgers, or was that a lie too?

Those are just a few questions that come to mind. I definately dig this movie.

When we were watching it, we thought maybe everyone except Johnny was a member of the cult, including his mate with the drinking hat, and that he is the one who killed him in the end.

The basis for ths theory is that he lives in the same town as Johnny, he's the one who originally gave Johnny the addresses, and that he spent most of the time carving pumpkins (perhaps in practice).

What doesn't make sense is that Rebecca was clearly involved from the off, why did she bother having all those conversations with Vera? If Johnny wasn't privy to them, they needn't have gone through the motions?!?

my take on it was:

-Rebecca was in on it but not untill the end; when Vera talks to her she says something like 'don't trust his love, he loved me to but look what he did to me (shows the eye)' I believe Vera was warning her about Tashi. But it was already to late; Tashi already got her into the cult

-that being said i think Vera was not in the cult, i believe she was genuinly concerned for rebecca and john

It's likely Tashi killed Johnny, due to his face appearing on the webcam during that scene.
I think the Halloween shaker is used to 'recruit' new members to the cult, which sounds crazy.
The shaker appears alot in the film,my theory is that it probably had some kind of power that hypnotised whoever heard it rattle.
I'm probably wrong,but hey.

Rebecca was in on it. That's why she grinned at the end. I was unsure of the Psychic though and wondered if she was in on it too with luring Johnny into the history enough to make him warn Rebecca who then goes to the house.
I like the Pumpkin idea. I never thought of that as practice. Good point.
