I think I missed a couple minutes of the movie that would have explained it, but what was the meaning of Frances' wearing a white dress when she went to see Marcello? Why was it so important that it be a white dress?

When Marcello came to the house while Frances was out harvesting mushrooms (truffles? dunno), he left a note with Patti. In the note, he said that he'd had a dream about Frances wearing a white dress.
shareI don't remember Marcello writing that bit in the note he left, but I do remember Katherine telling Frances to get a white dress. Katherine said that when a woman wears a white dress in front of her boyfriend, it makes him see her as a bride and wife, not just a fling.
