I agree. I woudln't per se call her a slut but I lost much respect for her for sleeping with a guy who's last name she didn't know, less than 24 hours and for all she knew, the lime/sugar/water thing could have been something to get her drunk. I will admit the "I still got it" dance was funny but also made me hate her more. And the "I want to swim in your eyes" line? Old, stupid, creepy and only losers use them.

I don't see her as a slut. I think it is kind of harsh for her to be labeled a slut.

Personally, I wouldn't have slept with someone I knew for only a few hours. But this is what makes life beautiful the fact that people are different.

I have just finished watching this movie. Don't you remember that just before she picked him up, her English friend (the female friend who was having her portrait painted) called her boring, so when she ran into him unexpectedly, I think she decided to sleep with him to "get back into life", so to speak. But I thought the little dance on the bed was really stupid.

it was a transitional moment for her. It signaled her moving past her divorce and realizing that she is still desireable, which she didn't feel she was after the divorce. She is not a slut. She is a grown women who needed to feel sexy again. If she had gone around sleeping with EVERYONE she met then she's a slut, but this was just one guy.

ITA. For me, it was a very important scene in the movie and I NEVER thought of her as a slut for doing it. And I thought her little "I got it" dance cute. She definately is NOT a slut.

Who cares if they think shes a slut, this goes down to morals. So don't jump at their throat and call them narrowminded and idiotic.
However, it was a good step for Francis. She needed to feel wanted and desirable, as someone had mentioned. Would i jump into bed after approximately 5 hours of meeting a stranger....no. At least notice his eyecolour before you go on! But again, she had her reasons.

The reason this film fascinates me (and yes I am a man who loved the film) was because it didn't create a fantasy world about divorce, struggles, sudden (and regertable) decisions. This wasn't a feminist flick or a male fantasy flick this was simply a film I like to label as "A Day In The Life". It really had no other purpose but to follow its main character through her choices and see how each one effects the rest of her path. It being filmed in Tuscany was just a beautiful bonus and the great script and acting was as well. I'm sure the people that hated this flick are probably the same ones who hated Lost In Translation because it did not follow the traditional ways of a Hollywood storyline. There is no great reward at the end and there is no sudden but inevitable drop that leaves room open at the end for a sequal just for the sake of hoping the film does well enough that they can squeeze it just that extra bit to get more profit. For once a film comes out of Hollywood where the importance of the film is its genuine feeling and integrity towards displaying simply the fact that this is a story about a regular person making regular mistakes and choices and the people around her aren't specificially there as props, they have life in them as well. I loved this film and for those that do not I can only feel sorry for them because they are missing the bigger picture or have not yet reached that point in life where a film of such simplicity has meaning to their own lives. You don't have to be a divorcee or an American abroad you simply have to be human.

You don't understand the movie then... it's to show that she started to live again. She was so miserable and then she bought this villa and started doing things she never thought she would and she met a man who made her happy. It's all to explain that "ladybugs" analogy. Anyway, I liked this movie. It was inspirational. And anyone who lost respect for Frances when she slept with Marcello or whatever his name was is afraid to live. You all secretly wish something like that would happen to you instead of being so safe all the friggin' time. I think John Mayer said it best when he sang the verse "Do you live the days you go through?"

There is no way the character of Francis was a slut. Anyone who lives in the real world would know that these things happen all the time. i'm sure if it was a man sleeping with a woman after not knowing her for that long, you wouldn't be calling him a slut!! Furthermore, the sex wasn't some drunken one-night stand with awkwardness in the morning but two adults LIVING. And as for the dance she does on the bed, she is expressing herself and ENJOYING life.

How stupid can you be to call the actress of a film, who's not playing a prostitute but a rather lost, desperate but hope and joyfull character, a slut, just because she lets herself enjoy a little sex with some almost complete stranger ? It's a fictional character that's part of a fiction. And even so, like I don't know who smartly said, having a one night stand or wanting sex for a night, even if just for the pleasure and luxury of sex, doesn't make you a slut, or anything more degrading than any other human being. You stuck up girls definitely wouldn't be so hard on the comments if you weren't so frustrated and full of moral principles...and Diane Lane is one hell of a beauty in this romantic comedy.
Get a life...

Oh please, she'd been out of the dating game for god knows how long and her character was just so lonely. All she wanted was someone who would charm her, and that he did.
I think he genuinely liked her but the circumstances just meant that they would never actually work.
To be quite honest a lot of people would have slept with him, me included

I suppose he's just as much of a slut as she is then (but you don't mention that, why?). But honestly, here we're talking about a 30-something or even 40-something year old woman who's old enough to make her own sexual choices as she pleases (not to mention the fact that this is JUST a movie). They're two consenting adults after a little fun, big deal. It diesn't mean anyone has to go picking up random strangers and giving them some supple. It just kmeans that the character was lonely and needed to feel good about herself, hence she did what she did. I was a whole lot more put off by the kids making out on her bed to be honest (nothing wrong in it per se, but dude - on somene else's bed fully knowing that THE OWNER in the house? That's just weird, and wrong).
